Hi,

I'm 15, and really feel as if I'm missing out somewhere in my relationship with God. I've asked him into my life, and I really want to totally live my life for him, and inevitably I fall short of the mark and sin. I really want the Holy Spirit to come into my life and help me. I've seen the Holy Spirit working in other people's lives, I just don't quite know how to go about getting the same out of my relationship with God as some other people.

Bless your heart Murray.

The first thing I would say is to know that God loves you so much. He loves you with an everlasting love and there is nothing that is good that He will withold from you.

If you've asked God into your life you have taken the first step. All of us struggle with different things in our lives but we can be assured that as we mature in our walk with Him those things will fade away.

The most important thing, in my opinion, is to keep your focus on Him. Don't look at where you fall short, but instead look at where He covers. Keep your eyes on Him and Who He is and your feet will not go off the path.

Everytime, you do fall short, acknowledge your fall. Give praise to God that He has forgiven you of that sin and thank Him for the strength that He has given you to not fall into that sin again. If you do this you will soon see things dropping away.

Read your Bible and fellowship with Him frequently. Read your Bible for study as well as for changes in your own life. You will learn a lot about God by reading what He has written to you. You will learn all that He has provided for you.

Put on your favorite worship music. Music that focuses on Him and His goodness. Meditate on the words and just love on Him. You will be amazed at how He will respond.

Feel free to ask any questions.

Your desire for God will carry you far. Never get so discouraged that you want to give up. I've found that spending extra time in prayer (and keeping a prayer journal even) really really helps me in my spiritual growth. Also, it's a really good idea to spend some time in the word every day. Sometimes first thing in the morning, I ask God to fill me with his Holy Spirit so I will have what it takes to get through the day and avoid whatever I'm struggling with.

It helps, but that doesn't mean that I never "miss the mark"...we all do. We just have to confess it and ask for God's help conquering whatever it is that is nagging at us.

God bless!

How exciting it is to be 15 and have a lifetime of fellowship ahead of you! You are in for adventures! Every day!

I have been saved for 32 years... and I still struggle against sin every day Murray. The great thing is that He still loves me everyday. Did you know that your relationship is not based on your works... but on the fact that you have been made the righteousness of God in Him. Righteousness is just a big word that means "right standing."
You have right standing with God. You can pray to Him, worship Him, and walk with Him every day... not because of what you did, but because of what Jesus did. He is not going to forsake you.
I am sure you have read 1 John 1:9.
1Jo 1

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness

I want you to look and see who it is in that verse who is being faithful and just. It is Jesus. If you confess your sin, HE is going to be faithful. You can rely on His faithfulness. He will wash you from all unrighteousness.
It was not long ago that I had failed God in a certain area. I could not sleep. I could not eat. It was eating me up inside. Finally at 2 A.M. in the morning I cried out to Jesus to forgive me. He did. I felt the presense and love of God flow through me as He did what He said what He would do. He cleansed me from that sin. But you know what? Even if I had not felt anything, He still did it. He did it because He said He did it in His word.
That is the biggest thing I can share with you little saint. Believe His Word. It is the food and water for your soul.
Bless you Murray! I look forward to seeing you one day with Jesus!

Along with didaskalos, I too have been saved since I was young. . .younger than you. And as didaskalos said, Jesus is faithful and just all the way to the end. His main objective is to see that you suceed in what He's started in you. You can do all things through Him.

I think jen and quaffer are hitting true, Murray. God is looking for people who are after his heart. Becoming free from sin isn't easy--if it was, Jesus wouldn't have had to die. But he did die for us, Murray, and he died to free us from sin. Quaffer is right--when you fall, run to him, and do not get discouraged by not being sinless the day after you believe. Seek his face--open your mouth and praise him whenever you can. Start a love affair with God. Sing little songs to him, and worship him. Think of him always, and speak to him always. When I was struggling with sin once, I was walking on my prayer hill. (I have a little hill where I pace up and down while talking to God--well, ok, nevermind) I was deeply saddened by my shortcomings, but rather than just telling me himself, God sent an annointed Woman of God from another house over to me, and she said "Matthew, God says that you are his son, and he loves you!" I couldn't say much more than "thank you" to her, as my emotions kept me from speaking. You are his child, Murray, and he loves you. Your advocate with the father is arguing your case as we speak, and his blood is the evidence in your favor. You are after his heart--that is what he wants. He doesn't care for your ability to impress people, or to do things on your own--he wants you to love him. He is cleaning you, and preparing you for when he will move in. And move in he will. Do not be downtrodden--you are God's child! Love him, and seek his face. I will pray for you. While we're at it, pray for me as well, will you?

Blessings

he put me back together just reminded me of a personal experience.

There was a time in my life when I was really dealing with feeling like a failure as a Christian. I was really kind of depressed about it because I had made a big mistake and afterwards I was just left with a feeling of "why the heck did I do that?"...it was really tough.

Anyway, I had prayed for forgiveness, and I knew that it was mine if I asked for it, but I was still really upset about it for a period of several months. But God started speaking to my heart and all I could hear was "I love you....I love you...I love you" I knew it was God...there was no denying it. Everything I read around that time was about God's love, every bible verse I went to was about God's love.

And at that time it hit me how amazing God's love is. Even when I was making bad decisions and failing God, he loved me. He never loved me any less during those times even though he was prodding me to repent the whole time. I believe that the more forgiveness God lavishes upon you, the deeper you find his love to be.

God bless

Yes--our experiences were similar. What I forgot to mention was that I was beginning to doubt that I was actually seeking God--or that I was even his child. It was certain that I heard his voice--that much is factual--but I began to doubt whether or not I was actually looking for him, after he blessed me with 3rd and 4th chances. That's why he sent the prophetess to me-- "YOU ARE my son, and never doubt it again." This is where my ensignia comes from--when I was a child, I had a small piggy bank, probably from the dollar store. I liked this little trinket--but one day I axidentally knocked it over and it broke into many pieces. Of course, being a child, I started bawling, not just because it was broken, but because I broke it. My sister, being a good sister, though, comforted me, and glued it back together. When I grew up, a baptism later, I began to realize just how fragmented we are, and that none of us understand anything. I said to God, "Lord, how are we to be saved? It seems to me that Satan has already sifted us--we are chaff, flying in the wind. How can we ever find you?"

And then he reminded me of that story with my sister, and said, "If your sister, who was as evil as you, loves you enough to repair a one dollar piggy bank because it belongs to you, do you think I would give YOU up, after the PRICE THAT I PAID FOR YOU? No, Matt--I will put you back together, because you are precious to me. I will put my bride (the church) back together, because she is precious to me--I sold everything I had to pay her ransom. I AM GOD--I made the wheat. I can put it back together. I am God--I made you. I will put you back together."
He will put you back together, Murray--make no mistake. He hasn't given up on you, and he will not. He paid to much for you to do that.

Please dont feel like your missing out on anything with God. You will not miss out on anything that God has planned for you. He sees your attitude and desire
in your heart to have a closer walk with Him. And He will do it too. Do not be anxious for anything, just rest in Him, read His word. He knows that your not perfect. He saved the imperfect. Give the relationship time to grow. It's like any human relationships you might have. When you first met them, you didnt know all about them at first.. But got to know them as you spent time with that person and that person became your best friend. So it is with God. He's already your best friend, just spend time with Him, and you will get to know Him.
