  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Please, post the link.

I was browsing through the thread and noticed that you are working on Ballade in G minor. This puts you straight into my deepest respect. That is my absolute favourite piece of music from any era, by any composer, on any instrument. I can only play the first 5 pages or so. Can you play the whole thing?

Oh, yeah, and I play classical music.

I've played piano since I was 4. I'm classically trained and did my grade 8 in 2000 (AMEB - Australian Music Examination Board I think). Since then I've just mucked around with whatever I've felt like learning. My favourite classical composers to play are Chopin and Beethoven. I'm currently brushing up Rachmaninov's Prelude in C# minor, and the 3rd movement of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, as well as Leibenstraum by Liszt.

I have tried off and on learning Ballade in G minor by Chopin, but can only play 5 pages at the moment.

Yeah I can play it all. In fact after readng through the piece I decided to focus initially on the ending, because I fugured it was no use learning the rest if I could not play the ending. The scale in thirds turned out to be more of a psychological problem and once I worked it out in my head my fingers started to comply. I have not committed the whole piece to memory yet... the stuff you are working on is impressive. You should be able to play the ballade if you can play those other pieces you mentioned.

please pm me for the link to the mp3.

Yeah, the scale in thirds isn't too easy, but I imagine it would be more of a psychological problem. It's the second last page - the presto con fuoco - that really worries me.

Well as it happens I haven't actually learned any more than when I last posted, which is sad, but unfortunately I don't have that much time to dedicate to the piano right now. I am very hopeful of doing my AmusA next year, and if that turns out and I can go for that - or even if I can't do my AmusA - I'll have more time to focus on the Ballade. I will play it one day.

I was just curious if anyone here plays classical music? and if so what do you play?
I used to play the violin-I played it for about six years and got burned out because of the rehersals. If I had to do it over again then I would have picked the cello.

I play flute, piano, handbells and lever harp.

My bachelor's degree is in flute performance. I have a church job playing piano, and I also play harp during church services, and direct the flute and handbell choirs, and healing music ensemble Canticle.

I teach private flute and piano lessons (and harp to adults who want to learn purely for their own enjoyment), and I gig a lot (weddings, parties, etc).

I love music!
