*catches breath* But I loved Pirates, Jack Sparrow was just the best. Barbossa was a great bad guy, and it was so filled with amazing action scenes and humour. I am forever against Lord of the Rings for stealing the awards from Pirates. Any fool can make lots and lots of people come over a hill graphically, it takes TRUE genius to evenly make people turn into skeletons in moonlight and make them clearly go through it without any glitches at all. PIRATES RULE!

That and, "Well, at least you've heard of me."
Great movie, can't wait for 2 & 3.

Yeah of course, I know the historical detail was spot on because last year I researched the history of piracy and Port Royal as the basis for some stories I was writing. What I meant was that the storyline demanded nothing from the viewer - it was pure fantastical enjoyment. I've got to disagree about the authenticity of Jack Sparrow's character, though - real pirates of the era were probably not so good or amusing people; they were the terrorists of the time.kurabrhm said:Not intellectually challenging? I'm sorry, but there's a lot of history in Pirates. Try the DVD and you'll see why. The characters portrayed in the film such as Captain Jack Sparrow originate in historical stories about various pirates who sailed the seven seas. Also note that the British ruled the Carribean once, which is also very well portrayed in the film. Alright, it may not be high intellect stuff but history is the pursuit of intellectual academics nonetheless.
