  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am a HUGE Johnny Depp fan, so chances are I'll see it and love it..lol. I loved the first one and can't wait for the second and third. Depp is an amazing actor and as long as he is in the others it will be awesome. They have to keep the original actors all the way through, it won't be the same without the original actors. Although since the second one isn't due out until 2006, I am patiently awaiting the Charlie and the Chocolate factory remake with Mr.Depp..lol.

I agree with the fact that Disney slaughters movies with sequels.......
thats mostly because they don't leave the movies so they can have a sequel....
where can it go, But i do love the graphics..........

Im sorry to burst everyones bubble but i thought this was an awful film, i really did. I respect that everyone else likes it but it was just so poor, i admit that some of the characters where good but the whole story was not good. I expected a long voyage into the open seas and lots of other good stuff.

"I'm disinclined to acquiesce to your request - means no." One of the greatest lines in movies!

That and, "Well, at least you've heard of me."

Great movie, can't wait for 2 & 3.

PotC was a lot of fun Not too intellectually challenging, but so entertaining that I didn't care. Whoever says it's rubbish has completely missed the point of it lol.

Not intellectually challenging? I'm sorry, but there's a lot of history in Pirates. Try the DVD and you'll see why. The characters portrayed in the film such as Captain Jack Sparrow originate in historical stories about various pirates who sailed the seven seas. Also note that the British ruled the Carribean once, which is also very well portrayed in the film. Alright, it may not be high intellect stuff but history is the pursuit of intellectual academics nonetheless.

POTC is one of my all-time favourite movies! I think I've memorized most of the lines, it's just pure old-fashioned fun at the movies. Nobody said movies have to be intellectual, sometimes you just want to be entertained, and POTC never fails to do so. Johnny Depp just completely steals the show, he was robbed of an Oscar! I fully believe that in 10 years people will still be watching POTC, but will have forgotten all about Mystic River. Not that I don't think Sean Penn is talented (he is!), but Johnny Depp created a truly memorable character in Capt Jack Sparrow.
Johnny Depp, Keira Knightley, and Orlando Bloom have all signed on for the sequel. I heard rumours that they're filming 2 & 3 at the same time. I sincerely hope that they're good sequels, otherwise I will be so very disappointed.
Drink up me hearties!

Yeah of course, I know the historical detail was spot on because last year I researched the history of piracy and Port Royal as the basis for some stories I was writing. What I meant was that the storyline demanded nothing from the viewer - it was pure fantastical enjoyment. I've got to disagree about the authenticity of Jack Sparrow's character, though - real pirates of the era were probably not so good or amusing people; they were the terrorists of the time.

Without a doubt the best line! I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I hadn't expected much from it and it turned out to be a "to buy" movie. Definately looking forward to the sequels.
