I alwayt thought the place for the aforementioned incident to be the shallow extension of Red Sea that has been filled with sand long ago. It would have been an ideal spot for the events described in Exodus, with the exception of waters standing high on both sides. That doesn´t seem possible without tinkering with laws of nature. The problem with that sort of remains is that Egyptians must surely have cleaned up the spot later. It was an abomination for an Egyptian not to be properly buried, so the bodies were salvaged for a proper burial. Metals were precious in Egypt, even more than aboard, as Egypt had no metals of her own. Thus all artefacts having metal in them were collected. War chariots were expensive equipement, too, so every repairable chariot or useable parts were salvaged. Not much remained to be found by later archaelogists, especially if the spot lies under Sahara sand these days.

There must be all kinds of debris collected on the Red Sea shores during millennia. It would be interesting if the finds really proved to be the remains of Pharaoh´s army, but I strongly doubt it.
