I find it interesting that people are coming out in Palins "defense" (if that's the correct term), someone they don't know and hadn't even heard of until 2 weeks ago, while criticizing a well known journalist who seems to have a pretty solid reputation across party lines. And the interpretations of the interview are polar opposites.

It's definitely a case of people trying hard to convince themselves of something. I wonder what.

Then she could have just as easily said the same.
Well, as I pointed out, she answered the question but it appears that Obama is the one who won't answer such questions. I guess your opinion of him dropped a notch after learning that

She didn't answer the question. She was prodded several times and gave some vague ultimatum.

Which part of "whatever it takes" seems to be vague to you?

The part where she didn't say "yes" or "no". It only took 3 tries for her to give that answer.

"whatever it takes" is a weak statement, because you can't actually follow through with it. Let us say the only way to destroy a terrorist network was to carpet bomb all of Israel, because they had imbeded themselves there. How many would actually do it?

I don't recall any politician answering simply yes or no to anything. It probably happens but it's unusual.

"whatever it takes" is a weak statement, because you can't actually follow through with it.
Whatever it takes is a weak answer Actually the opposite is true, and you didn't say she gave a weak answer. You said she gave no direct answer. I proved that she did So we're making progress anyway

He didn't ask her about Israel in that question

I never said he asked about Isreal. I was stating that saying whatever it takes is a weak answer. It is an answer you give when you don't know what to say, when you don't know what you would actually do. You lay down this blanket statement to make yourself look strong "I'll do anything!!!11one", but in reality you have limitations.

It's an answer you give when you're prepared to do whatever it takes.

From watching the interview, it seemed to me that Palin was 80% soundbite, 20% coaching.

I didn't detect any noticeable thoughtfulness about the questions asked.

I hope this rubs other voters the wrong way like it does me.

I doubt it though we elected the original soundbite president for the past 8 years.

Your responses make it clear why Democrats are perceived as weak on self defense

Was FDR "weak on self defense? Was Truman? Was JFK? Was LBJ? Was Clinton? No, but I'd say we might be considered weak on national suicide. When you say "whatever it takes", you must allow for the possibility of destroying your society to make a point. A president, who has sworn an oath to protect the country and the constitution, has no business forsaking his responsibilities to play a game of nuclear chicken.

And that is precisely what Palin stated in, to me, the scariest response of the interview. When Gibson said if under the NATO treaty, the United States would have to go to war if Russia again invaded Georgia, Palin responded: Perhaps so. I mean, that is the agreement when you are a NATO ally, is if another country is attacked, you're going to be expected to be called upon and help. And, I swear, she laughed as she said it.

Because I am intelligent enough to not make absolute statements that no one can back up?

The extremes you could be pushed to are unfathomable, and you can't find anyone who would do whatever it takes, because whatever never happens, only a small amount of the nearly infinite catastrophies that could befall you in a war actually occur.

Is Palin willing to send her child as a suicide bomber to take out terrorists?

What I hear from democrats:

She doesn’t seem to have much if any depth.

Republicans:

Republican good! Democrat bad!

She would never have to. Your answer still portrays Democrats as weak on defense since you fail to recognize the technology available that makes susice bombings by Americans unnecessary

So if a solider was in a position where his only option to kill a large group of terrorist leaders was to suicide bomb them in a public place, would you command him to do it?

Remember, you are willing to do whatever it takes.
First off, I can't imagine that scenario being the only option. Second, our soldiers aren't equipped as suicide bombers. Moot point
