• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

These are not real laws of nature. Even if they were, I don't see how any of them oppose life.

What is the actual reason for doing this and spending billions on
it?

Frankly, I wouldn't fund this research. I would take the money they use for SETI and any like projects and use it to find near earth asteroids and meteors (potential earth impacters). Also, to fund projects to deal with any potential impacters that are found. Much more useful.

*Edit* I assumed you meant research aimed at finding intelligent life in near by systems. Looking for any life on other planetary bodies in our system is a different story. That can be done while examining them directly and is worth while.

Was I talking about just SETI? No, I was talking about the whole
space program of looking for life.

This is an interesting and destructive side effect of creationism. It causes people to want to shut down scientific research so that scientists don't find evidence that creationists would find inconvenient.

SETI is the search for intelligent life, via listening for unnatural radio frequencies.

True, but it's more than that.

Oh, I see what you mean.

Still, my only point is that we're not spending billions of dollars to look for lie, intelligent or otherwise.

The cost of the most recent Mars rover missions comes close to a billion dollars. However, a billion bucks really isn't that much money anymore given that the military blew through a billion bucks in just 4 days of the Iraq war. 4 days of war, or some really cool rovers on Mars that are looking for life . . . I choose the rovers.

What evidence is all that money going towards finding? What research?

"to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before." ?

The evidence of intelligent life elsewhere in the universe and it's distribution.

"to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before." ?

It figures that you would have a tough time differentiating between real science and science fiction, given that you are a creationist and all.

Sheer curiosity is enough, providing you can afford it. In the future we will be able to afford it.
