  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

How "minority" is it? I've never been to a non YEC church

as a rough comparison.
the mainline American Presbyterian Church, PCUSA, is about 7 million people, it is TE.

the PCA which is probably 50% oec and 50% YEC is 700K, or 1/10 of the size.

Come to Australia.

The overwhelming majority of Catholics and Anglicans (and I suspect Lutherans), even the "rabid conservatives" in Sydney, oppose literalism.

The Uniting church (made up of Methodists and Presbyterians) is very liberal and would regard very few parts of the Bible as historical - let alone Genesis.

The Baptist church is heading in a similar direction. My uncle-in-law, who is a Baptist-trained theologian, told me that all but one Baptist theological college in the country is now theologically liberal.

And there you have > 75% of Australian Christians accounted for!! (see http://www.ncls.org.au/default.aspx?sitemapid=2232 )

Good question.

I would be willing to concede the point, though, that most Christian theologians have accepted the historicity of figures in the Torah (like say Adam). A literal reading
of the creation account is a different argument and I find less support that position among ECF's...
