I am new to being a Christian, so don't be surprised if I say something that doesn't make sense. I am trying to do my best and learning as I go. I was wondering what other Christians thought about going to a restaurant after church. If it is a sin to work on Sunday, then is it not also a sin to make other people work by going to their stores? Just wondering.

Congrats, Prototype!

Jesus said "it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath" in Matthew 12:12.
He was referring to His own healing "work" of course, but providing food is quite necessary and good in my opinion...

Plus customers do not make employees work, we must assume that the waitstaff wants and/or needs to be there to support themselves and their family.

It's worthy of consideration if you're a boss scheduling employees to work on a certain day... but as a customer, I wouldn't sweat it. Especially for important work like medical care or food service. =)

It is not a sin to expect that not everyone either believes in Christianity in the first place, or that they follow the prohibition against working 1 day of the week.

Romans 14:5
"One person regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind."

Therefore, even those of faith are not entirely of one mind regarding whether one day is set aside or no. As long as your observances are done in accordance with both the scriptures and by conviction of your own faith, there is no harm in it for you.

It is not a sin to go to a restaurant after Church. However, keep in mind that keeping a day holy means the *entire* day, not merely an hour in the morning. So whatever you do on Sunday's be sure you are giving the day fully to G-d and not merely an hour to G-d.

But it is no sin to work on Sunday. Saturday is the seventh day -- and it is no sin to work on Saturday. The Lord stated that He is Lord of the Sabbath, and we share in His authority. His disciples were said to be sinning by the religious of the time for working on the seventh day, but the Lord said the religious were the ones in the wrong.

The law of working on the seventh day was part of the covenant (agreement) between God and the Hebrews. We in the Lord's Church are not counted as Hebrews, even those whose flesh has Hebrew ancestry. Our obedience is to the commandments of the Lord Jesus Christ, and His commandments do not include either a change in the sabbath day of the week, or a need to cease work on the seventh day.

I help keep a little church of the Lord Jesus which meets on Friday nights. I find it works better for many people's schedules, and it also encourages and does not detract from churches tradition-chained to Sunday morning.

God bless you... congrats!!

As far as going out to eat, it's not a sin at all. One thing to remember is that back in Jesus' day eating a meal with someone was a special thing. It was something that people did to fellowship and enjoy each others company. Many of Jesus' teachings to the Apostles were done around the table.

I say enjoy the time... fellowship and use it to build up your fellow Christians with love and support.

As far as working on the Sabbath... well different people are going to tell you different things. There was some strict rules about it back in the Old Testament however as was previously said many of those doctrines and teachings were changed/adjusted as time passed. Personally, I try not to work however sometimes life (lawn work and such) gets in the way.
The most important thing is to take time to spend with God and grow closer to him and the beauty of that is that you can do it at anytime!!

Hey there and congrats! t1ck, I agree. Now...this is my opinion, but I believe that as long as you make sure you quiet down before the Lord on a regular basis...well...that's a wonderful thing. That's how I look at Sabbath. I'm a nurse and the hospital doesn't close on Saturday or Sunday, so I have to do what I have to do. I believe that God knows this and we're cool. He knows every hair on my head...of course he knows my routines and my schedule, etc. Anyway, those are my thoughts.

Resting on the sabbath is a good idea and one that is suggested in the Bible. Defining the sabbath is really up to you. If eat out and therefore not cooking yourself is restful, then go and eat out. Don't worry about the employees, it is their responsibility to determine when and if they will take a sabbath day. The sabbath does not need to be a particular day of the week. One could say that you shouldn't work on the sabbath and the sabbath has traditionally been understood to be Sunday, but what about pastors? Aren't they "working" on Sunday? Hopefully they take time to rest another day of the week.

Taking time to be restful is important, what rest means to you is yours to define.
