It seems that many people will acknowledge that a ten year old is the same entity as when he/she was five years old. However, it also seems that a lot of the same people will not acknowledge that the ten year old is the same entity that he was when he/she was... say... a blastocyst. (And let's not even go into zygote territory at this moment.)
Why is this? Aren't the blastocyst and the ten-year-old the same organism but at different stages of development?
