Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It seems that many people will acknowledge that a ten year old is the same entity as when he/she was five years old. However, it also seems that a lot of the same people will not acknowledge that the ten year old is the same entity that he was when he/she was... say... a blastocyst. (And let's not even go into zygote territory at this moment.)

Why is this? Aren't the blastocyst and the ten-year-old the same organism but at different stages of development?

Yeah, alot of weird people out there that believe silly things.

Very simple, the similarity of shape is high on one, but is very low, or none, on another one. Not everyone can see the spiritual side of things.

Depends on what you mean by "the same". They are the same in that there is genetic and developmental continuity between them. But in other ways, a ten-year-old is a very different person from its five-year-old self, and it wasn't even much of a person before the things that generate its personality (i.e., mainly the brain and the senses through which it interacts with the world) formed.

I think there are a lot of important traits that a five year old and a ten year old share, but a blastocyst doesn't posses:
Identity, self awareness, consciousness of senses, memory and interconnections within human society.

Juvenissun is absolutely right, I don't see the spiritual side of the situation. I haven't seen a reason to accept that it even exists.
