• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I went through Steps 1-3 on the patch in 3 weeks. I am now off of nicotine and grateful for that. I don't want that crap poisoning my body any more. Cigarettes have something like 500 poisonous additives in them and I don't want any of it any more. Sometimes I think of a cigarette and then I block the thought out now. It's something I think I do to protect myself from the evils of nicotine. Thank you God for letting me get over this addiction.

Thank you for your kind words. At the moment I have no desire for nicotine and think it's a killer drug.

That it is my dear. I sometimes have the desire still but lately I have been asking myself why I am craving and what I really want (usually it is just a reason to sit down and relax, or to excape the painful/boring/insane situation that I am currently in).

God bless

UnitynLove, thanks so much for your encouragement. I am thankful to God for letting me know that I was possibly starting to get heart disease from smoking. I don't need that or a cigarette. Bless you.

Evie, I quit smoking for 16 years last time and by gradually reducing the nicotine it was easier for me. I said goodbye to the evil nicotine, hopefully for good. I just take it One Day at a Time. I haven't had the cravings but once since I quit. I just didn't give in to it and got busy doing something instead. Good luck to you and God bless.

Dear Ruth,

Congratulations on going through the patches. I'm so glad for you. I am starting to get to the point for me where I am getting a lot of coughing and it might be easier for me to try to stop when I run out.

I never thought of heart disease; just the lungs. I'm glad you mentioned that.

Well, God bless you, love, tapero

Thank you Tapero. If I can quit anyone can. There are so many bad diseases we can get from smoking. It's pure poison. I wish you good luck whenever you choose to quit. You can do it! Praying for you.

I'm currently working on my second attempt. The 1st time I used the patches religiously. This time I did the gum.

I bought 1 pack of patches and have & will use the rest of them IF I plan to be in a situation that I know is a Trigger--like "Spending all day with my Dad who suffers from dementia"...but so far so good. I've got 2 months under my belt. It's been TUFF, But I'm starting to feel empowered.

Did you have the "Vivid" dreams?

Congratulations on quitting. Yes, I had the vivid dreams. Some were pleasant and some were very scary. I was glad to get off the patch. I have developed a disliking for nicotine now after I believe it made my blood pressure high. Tomorrow I will find out if it's back to normal. Good luck with not smoking.
