Hello Peoples,
I have a question, mainly focussed on people who like dance/trance/techno music, I love this genre, but I love non - christian trance music. I was told that I should stay away from this for it brings a "euphoria" feeling of being somewhere other than where you are. Before I was a christian, yes I felt this.

BUT now that I am, I feel that same euphoria, but it feels it has more of a purpose to it. Like Not only do I feel like I am somewhere else, but it feels like that somewhere else is with the lord. like almost the music is a praise for the lord.

I have heard some christian dance / trance music and some of it is ok, but nothing compared to euro trance.

Does anyone have any comments, feedback, abuse?

thanks,

Peter

most trance music is made up of beats and rythems that try to spark movements in your body. (Ever hear a song that you just couldn't help tapping your foot too)?

However, the majority of secular trance/techno (and christian techno groups who don't know any better) create their beats and rythems to match peoples movements for sex. Not only is it the most common, but also some of the biggest feelings and emotions that go through the body, hence the reason why trance is growing and why most raves have exstacy.

My personal solution to this is European Post-Modern Dance/Club mix. Take the entire scene of dancing, and beats, and drugs, and sexuality and give it a gothic twist--all these things become meaningless and the dance beat becomes happily hopeless. It is a parody of the dance scene.

try Andy Hunter out for a spin
Hey, Andy Hunter is a cool DJ I like his stuff.

BUT. Is that all it takes for trance to have a different meaning? Is for the lyrics with christian like words? because for trance with no lyrics brings me the same glorious feeling Andy hunter gives...

I beleive it is presented how you feel about the music, not the sub-culture that lives by it, mainly talking about music with no lyrics. . . . Because how is trance different to Classical music, i'm talking about orchestra. Now im sure that there are people who listen to such genre, people such as elder christians. no lyrics, classical music can portray just as much emotion as trance. I beleive it is how you interpret it.

YES trance music culture involves unpleasant things such as drugs and sex. but how is that different to classical music with violence and sex in movies?

regards,

Peter

What you need is Andy Hunter.

Im a LOT like you. I love trance, dance, and house. I go clubbing every so often, and make sure im a good representative of Christ. However, look at the fruits of the music... ecstacy, drunkedness, lust, etc etc. It seems to attract 'the wrong crowd.' And thats why I believe Christian DJ's are important. To show that it is not the genre that matters, anything can be a sweet song of praise to God.

Andy Hunter does some nice chill-out house music.

God Bless, metal.

As I stated in my previous posts, it's about the beats and rythems in comparision to movements and feelings of the human body. Most trance matches the rythems and beats as to what people would use for sexual interation.

This differs from classical music.

Well, my previous reply was focussed on HOW you translate music. And my point is proven to what YOU as an individual believe, in your case, that trance is of "sexual interaction"

I can kind of understand where you are comming from and respect that. There are songs with lyrics which support what you have stated. But to say most Trance promotes "sexual interaction" is quite a general statement. I dont listen to those songs that contain such lyrics, it doesnt move me. but for songs without lyrics, or even lyrics that isnt promoting anything of lust, but of energy (or movement) or something like that. and I think if you want to target lyrics of movement is promoting sexual interaction, I think that is silly

God Bless,

Peter

When did I ever say anything about lyrics? I personally don't know many trance songs even have lyrics.... I am talking about beats an rythems. You can think it's silly if you want, but it's still true.

I will admit that I have no actuall evidence of this, however, I have confirmations of those who make the music (Though not very profession, yet still obssessed with the music) and those who dance to it. People from both categories, including myself, say that it creates a great tendency for sex and would actually "prep" the body.
Course, some trance songs do not.

I think a lot of trance artists do not realize this, including christian artists. Ultrabeat is my favorite christian trance group, and I can only think of maybe 1 or 2 songs that would create that sexual rythem. Course this all depends just how active your hormons are and how well you move.

xtxArchxAngelxtx,

I would be more prone to agree with you if you thought that these "sexual rythems" where in SOME songs and not MOST songs of the trance genre. and even after that, this would only come into affect those some songs involving "sexual" lyrics .
Then again, that is the way I see it. could be different for many peoples.

Anyone else with an opinion?

regards,

Peter

Actually House music has a LOT of lyrics. Dance and Trance have some lyrics, more often than not a lot of lyrics.

Andy Hunters music ALL has lyrics in. The lyrics to "translucent" are awesome. "Go" probably has the least lyrics in, but it still has lyrics that glorify God.

Its not about the genre, its about worship. Even if the music is inspired as an act of sacrifice to God, theres nothing wrong with that. Look at how instruments in the Old Testament were used to worship God.

God Bless, metal.

Well i guess it owuld depend on what we listen to. The songs I have heard I think tend to be sexual in nature. Most christian trance songs I have heard tend to not be. However I listen to mostly secular.

Kraftwerk is a band that helped make music what it is today. They invented the drum machine. I'm listening to them right now. They're really good. Sparse lyrics, very little of which mean anything at all (ie: I'm the operator with a pocket calculator/when you press a special key/it plays a little melody). There's IDM (Intelligent Dance Music) of which I have a few CDs. the music is actually very undanceable. Two good bands (without lyrics) in this spectrum are autechre and squarepusher. I loaned an autechre ep to my friend and he thought it was messing up his CD player. It's just all-out chaos. Finally, joy electric is a fantastic, Christian synth-pop band with a synth-pop label (plastiqmusiq).

They just released a new CD yesterday. I got one for my dad's birthday, so I haven't listened to it yet. Amazon.com probably has some clips and whatnot.

Glad to be of service.

joy electric was a big disopointment when I heard their stuff......... It sounds like christian carnival music for children under 5. Their music suites their name quite well.

Seeing them live and/or meeting Ronnie (as I have done) would probably change your opinion.

Seeing a group live and listening to a CD are completly different things. I Don't like Five Iron Frenzy at all, however I had a blast at their concert. Just how I will never listen to Audio Adrenaline in my spare time, their concerts are always awesome and enjoyable.

I do not doubt JE's character as cool people, I am sure they are tight, however, that does not change my opinion of thier music.
