  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Mike - Thank You. I have to admit that I have never heard of a church that ONLY celebrated Santa Claus and not Jesus Christ.
Just to be precise. We did celebrate Jesus all the time. And we even celebrated his birth at times. Hark the Herald was in our song books, and I can remember singing it once or twice--just never at Christmas time.

We just did not celebrate his birth as part of Christmas, and we were adamant that no one should.

I celebrate the birth of Jesus at Christmas now, so obviously I don't think it is wrong, but I still don't think it is necessary. There were Christians on this earth for a couple of centuries before any of them started celebrating Christmas, and they were able to serve God without it.

But I think I understand what you mean. It was kind of strange taking Jesus out of Christmas for religious reasons. I do remember at times when I was very steeped in traditional Church of Christ doctrine that I wondered if it would not be best to simply not celbrate Chreistmas in any fashion at all, and there were a few members of the conservative Churches of Christ that took that very approach. But most of us put up trees and exchanged presents and such.

the jews are commanded to remember / observe trumpets, booths, tabernacles, etc. by God....not weird, God's will

the Jehovah's Witnesses don't do christmas, dancing, oaths, blood transfusions....
some other sects are against music....halloween...secular things...modern appliances and technology... their choice

Paul said faith , hope, love, Jesus....and from what I've seen of the media lately...a proviso against tv , radio, and computers might benefit the faith...
