I don't watch stephen king movies. They bother me.....When I was younger I had nightmares all the time.
I had to be careful about everything I read (no Steven King short stories in English class), and everything I watched on television (no twilight zone etc)
If you need, start policing what you are reading about and watching. I finally outgrew the nightmares (granted by then I was already a parent but still.. lol,)
Try to give yourself breaks from anything stressful, keep books around that are comforting which you can turn to, to lighten your mood and heart before bed.
Books like chicken soup for the soul were good if I recall, and all the James Harriet books were awesome, all creatures great and small etc.
We just have to be more careful about what goes into the mind when we are more prone to having nightmares. To this day I can't watch many movies. For me it's just a fact of life... You figure out what you can deal with eventually.

I dealt with severe physical abuse (as well as mental) from my ex husband...
When we escaped the marriage I had nightmares, badly. I relived everything every night and woke up screaming all the time.
Because of this me and the kids all slept together for a while, it gave all of us comfort and when I woke up screaming the kids were there and knew it was just a dream.
We all managed through, and eventually I stopped reliving everything in dreams, stopped waking up screaming. (My children had PTSD also .. it was a family thing, what we all went through was really bad).
Certain things will cause me to go into PTSD episodes but it's far far fewer and farther between than it once was.
Time heals all wounds as they say, but it doesn't change what you went through. That's always a part of the lens you see the world through now.
The most healing thing you can do is to forgive who hurt you. That's the hardest thing to do, but it's necessary for your own soul.
If you're still dreaming it, you might need to explore how to forgive for whatever you went through?
I see you as a very forgiving person, but there's something here you might be hanging onto that you might need to let go of. It's either that or you just need more time to heal.
