• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I just had a really terrifying nightmare. I was being chased by the guy who raped me. He had a gun. I watched him kill my family before my eyes. He then took me threw me in his car brought me to this house and took me to a bedroom. There waiting for me were a group of guys <staff edit>. They kept me hostage <staff edit> night after night.

Iim crying and shaking... This nightmare has left me feeling scared to Death. I need some comforting.

Can you talk to a parent or another friend (give them a call or have them come over)? I had dreams too (and fears) that the person would end up stalking me at my college campus after it happened. I would turn to the Psalms in the Bible to help calm me down and focus my thoughts else where.

You are safe, keep your focus on God--- He will help you through this.

Not a nice experience for you. The nightmares most likely are related to past events. As you have begun confronting those events they are in your conscious thoughts a bit more and therefore many of the emotions associated with those times can fuel your reliving them through your nightmares. That's one of the hard parts of opening up. Persevere with processing things and you will find your nightmares wil lessen intensity and frequency after a while.

These are times when you need some real support from a trusted friend.

I am so sorry to hear about your nightmare. I understand how you feel...there are times...were I have had dreams or flashbacks to the different incidents I have been through....the two worst dreams that I have was one of my mom's close friend raping me....it has taken a while before I could feel comfortable around him again...even though he didn't do anything to me in real life...it was like the dream was so real...No one knows about that dream...I also had a dream of one of my abusers chasing me with a knife following me to my house...I was running and at one I got so tired that I had decided that I was just going to give up but somehow found the strength (while on my knees) to start crying and praying...He tried to stab me but it didn't hurt, didn't leave any marks or anything on me....But at the same time I had to stay focused and prayed and eventually woke it...


So days I am not sure what's worse the dreams or the flashbacks

I never thought about that...as you work through it...it can cause your nightmares to get worse...I am so sorry that you have to deal with this...with all of it

There are lots of promises in the Bible we can depend on. For example Psalm 34:7: "The angel of the LORD encamps all around those who fear Him". The promises of God are conditional, if we do our part, then we can be sure that God will do His part. In this case our part is to "fear Him". We know if we fear God, then He will watch over and protect us, so we do not have to fear man. We know in Romans 8:28 that "all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose." So we know our part is to Love God and follow His plan and purpose for us and our lives, then He will work all things together for our good.

I have had more flashbacks lately. The dreams haven't been about that though. They have just been really random and weird. Like I had a dream that my mom woke me up at 4:30 a.m. For church... It was just weird and totally random.
