  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

"

At Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, DC recently the Sergeant Major of the Army, Jack Tilley, was with a group of people visiting the wounded soldiers.

He saw a Special Forces soldier who had lost his right hand and suffered severe wounds of his face and side of his body. The SMA wanted to honor him and show him respect without offending, but what can you say or do in such a situation that will encourage and uplift?

How do you shake the right hand of a soldier who has none? He decided to act as though the hand was not missing and gripped the soldier's wrist while speaking words of comfort and encouragement to him.

But there was another man in that group of visitors who had even brought his wife with him to visit the wounded who new exactly what to do.

This man reverently took the soldiers stump of a hand in both of his hands, bowed at the bedside and prayed for him.

When he finished the prayer he stood up, bent over the soldier and kissed him on the forehead and told him that he loved him.

What a powerful expression of love for one of our wounded heroes!

And what a beautiful Christ-like example!

What kind of a man would do such a thing?

It was the wounded man's Commander-in-Chief, George W. Bush; President of the United States, with First Lady Laura Bush silently standing by his side.

This story was told by the SMA at a Soldiers Breakfast held at Red Stone Arsenal, AL, and recorded by Chaplain James Henderson, stationed there.

Pass it on...the press won't."

You should have left out that part and he would have gotten nothing but praise (without questioning) even from the most hardened bush haters, then you would have posted that bit later...

Well I found this... it suggests the story isn't entirely true... but it might have happened something like that. What is true atleast is that he did make a visit to that place.

This part does seem to be true...

Im sure you would have... especially since it makes a complet mockery of one of your topics about bush never visiting wounded soldiers. (Im not 100% certain it was you that made that topic, sorry in advance if it wasn't, would definately have been your style though)

Hmm... well I can't say that it isn't nice to know that he's acknowledging soldiers and praying for/with them. I'm sure that means a great deal to them and wether he's doing it for the election or not it's still nice for the soldiers. Good deeds done for the wrong reasons (potentially) are still good deeds I suppose.

Of course, it might have been more 'Christ like' not to have gone to war in the first place... seeing as how we (to my non-news-watching knowledge) haven't really found any major catches of WMD or anything... and the fact that I doubt Christ would declare war on any people period. Maybe the 'demons' within them, or the 'evil' of their religion if he felt that way, but killing people didn't seem to be Christ's style. *shrug*

Oh well, I didn't vote for him... won't this time around- no matter how many soldiers he kisses.

I have never said that Bush didn't visit wounded soldiers. I think it was very nice to hear that he was both willing to visit and that he treated the wounded soldier with compassion. Just because I disagree with most of Bush's views doesn't mean he can't do anything nice.
However, as was pointed out...if this mockery of a war wasn't going on, the soldier wouldn't have lost the hand in the first place. Perhaps seeing the real effects of war on the soldiers will diminish Bush's quest for monetary gain. Hopefully...

But you keep repeating it, when I'm beat, if I make a factual error, I correct myself or say I was wrong. You keep repeating that line that the President hasn't meet with the families and it's not true.

Here we go again. For the final time I ASKED IF IT WERE TRUE.

Very good and wise post, especially for your age I must say.

In fact, it is very unusual for an 18 year old to have even voted in the presidential election...

Here's the thread Silvio started where he claims he asked a question about Bush when in fact he didn't. Anyone who wants to know the truth can read it here
