Hi there! I need ideas for an anonymous GIF for a woman in her mid 50s that attends my church and is an inlaw of an inlaw. I barely know the woman but she is so kind and welcoming to everyone she meets in and out of our church and I wanted to show her that it is noticed and say thank you but I want to do it anonymously. I dont know much about her. Any ideas?

Since you don't know her very well, that kind of makes it tough to buy her something. Plants? Does she have animals that might eat them and get sick? Food products? She could have allergies.

Gift cards are almost always welcomed by people.

What I think really touches people are hand written thank you letters

Unless you have a certain time by which you would like to have her get the gift, why not (discreetly?) try to find out more about her from others to give you a better idea of what gift might then be suitable?

I don't always buy gifts ...... instead I'll get a nice card and enclose some cash with it - which always seems to be welcomed!

Ask around and do some research... find out a bill she has and pay it or something she deperately needs like new tires on her car (if you've got $500) or a bag of groceries that fit her dietary concerns (if you've only got $100) or a new sweater if she's only got one and its full of holes (if you've only got $15)

A spa or nail set (body wash, puff, moisturizer etc)
An inspirational book, dvd or music.
Gift card to a popular restaurant, Day spa, hair salon etc.
Invite her over for lunch or supper(you do the cooking.)
Write your own thank you note.
Stationery
Scented or an unscented candles.

Ask around to find some more about the lady, that way you can pick
out something that's right for her.

A heartfelt note or card would mean the most to me, personally. I don't go to spas, I don't do my nails, so gifts like that are hit-or-miss for people you don't know. And if I had touched someone's life, I would much rather they tell me about it in a card or note, than give me a gift.

It's so nice of you to think of this.

If you mail a note with a gift card, it is easy to stay anonymous and deliver it without intrusion. A plant would be appropriate, but hard to deliver anonymously and conveniently. A note seems more permanent than a conversation, because it will appear more intentional, and she can hold onto it for encouragement.

Everyone can use grocery store gift cards, even though they don't seem gifty.

Your thread reminded me of someone who gave me a giant bag of regifted things. I didn't know her well, but had done some work for her that I should have billed. Her "payment" was a huge bag of things I'd never use, that were obviously things she was not using. I was allergic to some of it. It's hard to guess what a person would like when you don't know them, so try to keep universal appeal.
