Do it. You'll be surprised at how quick you learn French when you're surrounded by it. I sure did.

I think you should be able to cope. Surely a lot of the students would like to talk english with you and will help you learning french. I don't know Toulouse, but i thinks there's quite a lot of students there.

In any case, if you have any difficulty, i think anyone would be pleased to help if you ask (i mean you should let some people know about your problems).
I think there are 1 or 2 baptist church there.

I can't say you'll be able to speak french in 1.5 month, some people learn faster than others. But it will be far easier to learn it in France than in the US!

I couldn't agree more....I've been in french for 12 years here in Canada, but I bet that just a few months in the laguage could do so much more than any ammount of time here. You'll want a base understanding before you go, and I think that is where your concern is, but with some intensive studying, I'm sure you could pull it off.

Take extra French: I recomend reading french commic books (I can recomend some) at first you will take 6 hours to read them, in the end, you will be able to read them in 1 hour.
Secondly, I highly recomend using the French in Action course, because it gives you oral exercises on tapes (so that you know how to talk automatically) and it gives you everyday language, specifically student everyday language.
Watch hours of French TV.
If you do this, you should be able to make your self understood.
