  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Honestly one of mine is Buffy Summers, a young girl forced to stand alone against vampires and demons, it stole her life, and nothing good ever happened to her to make her want to carry on but she did. Plus most of the big hero's in shows and movies are men, so i think it was good to have such a powerful leading female character.

My favorite scifi character is The Doctor (played by David Tennant) because he's brilliant. It's hard to put down in words, but he's just a fun character to watch with his humor, his personality and how he figures everything out.

Simon Tam from Firefly because he is so devoted to his sister.

Jessica Atreides because-well, just because.

Marc Oberlindes from the Traveller RPG series because he is really cool.

1 - Boba Fett, because he went from losing his father and wandering the galaxy as a small time bounty hunter. To becoming the King (Mand'alor) of his father's entire people (The Mandalorians) and ultimately helping save the galaxy.

2 - Captain Kirk, for his boldness and fearlessness.

3 - Commander Shepard (Mass Effect), because he saved the galaxy..twice..(so far).

4 - Commander William "Bill" Adama, for leading and protecting what remained of humanity against the Cylon threat.

Maureen, Lazarus Long's mum.

Because she's a babe, obviously.

Robert created so many good characters.

Mike from The Moon is a Harsh Mistress
Any of the 3 top characters from Glory Road (or for that matter a couple of the minor characters too).

But I'll go with Johnny Ezra Dahlquist. He never sought to be a hero, tried to get out of heroing as quickly as possible, but once he was a walking dead man he played things out to the bitter end. Saddly he was never even sure if his sacrifice worked. Funny that the reader knew from the opening paragraph that he would die and that his death would not be in vain.

After reading too many threads elsewhere on this board I'm changing my favorite character to:

David MacKinnon from 'Coventry' by Heinlein. David is a sanctomonious self centered jerk, at least to start with. But at least by the end he learns. It gives me hope that someday others might learn.
