• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My mother had given birth to my sister just two weeks before, when she came home from prayer meeting to find her husband dead in the living room.

Years later, my mother would eventually learn that my father had (what they would have called) bi-polar disorder (if that label had existed at the time).

20 years later my sister would be momentarily instituionalized with sucidal tendancies. Thankfully, my mother had learned much since then, and put in place a protocol that would eventually lead to my sister's full recovery.

Our whole immediate family now all understand what causes those kinds of behaviours and what to do if they ever surface.

Labels, once they've been self applied and merged with your very identity, become very hard to shake. Be careful with labels. Never identify yourself as your illness. You should always identify yourself as a child of God first and foremost, because, in fact, that is what you are. If you don't believe that fact, it won't bear any fruit in your life whatsoever and it will be as though you are not a child of God. But you are. So believe it and act accordingly.

If anyone wants to talk to someone who knows for certain that all bi-polar symptoms can be eliminated for good, forever, for anyone, then PM me. I'm not a doctor. I won't take responsibility for your health. That concept is, in fact, part of the solution.

But I have been given a gift through the death of my father. It was a horrible thing. Something I don't wish on anyone. I would have been much better off if it didn't happen. But nevertheless, it did happen, and God has used it wonderously for good in my life. It is my gift, and I wish to use it to help those who have been faced with the same mental challenges.

God bless, and be well.
