Greetings all, I wanted to briefly share my story:
I grew up in an athiest household where I only knew the name "Jesus Christ" as a curse screamed by my father whenever the lawn mower broke down. However, when I was 10, new neighbors moved in next door with several kids around my age. They shared the Gospel with me, and I Believed and was saved right in their backyard. I never went to church, but rather learned and grew through self-study of Scriptures as well as a small study group with my neighbors. My father either scorned my faith or completely ignored it (the latter of which he does today). My neighbors once asked his permission to baptize me at their church... one would think a portal to Hell itself opened with his reaction to that proposition. Needless to say, I was not baptized that day. Nevertheless, the Holy Spirit strengthened within me, and my love for God perservered.
Hearing all of these horror stories about certain churches, I wonder if my upbringing ironically was less of a stumbling block than people who were made to go to church by their parents, particularly the worldly congregations that have lost sight of the message of salvation through our Lord and Savior.
