  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm not sure what it'd be called, but it consists of piano, small string ensemble, and operatic vocals.

You know, pretty much any music that has folk or orchestral instrumentation, isn't raucous, and includes trained vocalists or a choir... I'm fairy easy to please.

My favorite genres are: metal, punk, ska, rock, and classical/soundtrack.
It's kinda broad and not very specific but I felt that if I went more specific I would miss some genres. I do also like music in different genres than those, but I think those are probably overall my favorite.
I like fusions of different genres as well if it sounds good to me.
I'm generally not a fan of slow music, not sure why. Perhaps it drives me crazy as a percussionist.. idk.

I like music in probably every genre. Mostly I enjoy rock (modern, classic, and indie), but have been known to listen to something smooth when writing, or trying to keep up with Eminem when the mood strikes. My least favorite genre is country, although there are a few I like. Classical can be nice as well.

Lately I've been moving from rock to a new genre and I really don't know what to call it. Synthpop? Post-rock? Ambient?

I think that would be considered chamber music.

I am with you on Baroque. That is my favorite era of classical. Vivaldi is my favorite composer.

90's alternative, old school punk, 60's baroque pop, classical music (more into romantic period), Jazz (mainly free jazz and jazz fusion), some post-rock, some underground hip hop and electronica, some big 60's classic rock bands. I recently got really into glam rock ballads from the 70's.

Indie folk (Alexi Murdoch, Gregory Alan Isakov, The Weepies, etc), classical (Tchaikovsky, Chopin, Debussy, Brahms, etc), Gregorian Chant, soundtracks (Thomas Newman, James Newton Howard), some hip hop (Kendrick Lamar, Donald Glover), oldies (like Credence Clearwater Revival, The Rolling Stones, Beatles, Bob Dylan).

The list goes on.

Christian (predominately, Rock and Rap), Celtic, Folk, Bluegrass, Country (but not all of it), Instrumental, Pop, K-Pop (some of it is good but others...laughable), and hymns. I basically run the gamut from really mellow coffee house style music to something that has occasional screaming in it.

My default responses for the last 13-14 years have been Industrial (of various subgenres) and Gothic Rock. But I do listen to a lot more than that, and especially since those genres haven't had a lot of really active output for some years it makes it difficult to find after you get through the wealth of 80s and 90s acts. But a few lists gleaned from last.fm:

Top Artists, Overall (counted since January 2006):
Code:
1	3,784	The Birthday Massacre
2	1,810	Autumn's Descent
3	1,573	The Last Dance
4	1,222	Orgy
5	936	The Offspring
6	925	The Awakening
7	897	Nightwish
8	895	Collective Soul
9	753	Royal Republic
10	726	Celldweller
11	693	Porcelain and The Tramps
12	686	Peter Murphy
13	659	All About Eve
14	590	Florence + the Machine
15	574	Depeche Mode

Top Artists, Last 12 months:
Code:
1	589	The Birthday Massacre
2	398	Florence + the Machine
3	221	Orgy
4	187	The Jezabels
5	110	8mm
6	104	Sinéad O'Connor
7	103	Wild Cub
8	89	U2
9	75	Rise Against
10	60	Celldweller
10	60	Joelistics
12	59	The Last Dance
13	58	The New Pornographers
14	56	Nightwish
15	55	Royal Republic

Lately I've been moving from rock to a new genre and I really don't know what to call it. Synthpop? Post-rock? Ambient?
Those three names refer to three very different things.
