I read somewhere that it takes twice the length of time that you were together to get over your ex. It my experience (and asking others) this seems to be true. A relationship of 3 years took 6 years to get over.

With that being said, I read it on some kind of gossip column on the internet.

It doesn't seem clear though that it takes a long time.

The short answer is that you NEVER "move on". This isn't a former girlfriend that you broke up with. This was your life partner. Instead, we grieve then move ahead...taking everything with us...the memories, the love, the heartache, and everything that they changed in becoming who we are...

Even those that get married again and have a wonderful "Chapter 2" can be happy again but they do not leave their first love/marriage behind.
