So, it's looking like a very good possiblity that we will be moving in about two months. We've tried recruiting our families to help us with a move in a U-Haul but my parents have basically said that they'd rather pay for us to have a company move us than have to lug our furniture out of the second story apartment we are currently in.

So they've called Two Men and a Truck to get an estimate from them. My mom's friend used them and had no problems. I however, have found some very poor ratings on them online. Anyone have any personal experience with them or know of any other good moving companies that won't cost a ridiculous amount?

Thanks!

The ratings places I found had a mix of good and bad ratings (I think you're probably going to find that with anything that is rated). But my mom's friend had a really good experience with them. I'm also thinking that each location might be different, say the Phoenix location might have gotten terrible reviews but the Nashville one got great reviews. This is the problem I'm having so I'm just looking for others who might have experience with them or another company.

With these kind of things, word of mouth is probably the best advice you can go with (which I guess is the point of this post! )

Our last move (in state) we went with Atlantic and had no problems. I don't know the cost because my husband's company handled it.

At the very least, check whomever you are thinking about using with the Better Business Bureau.

Good idea about the BBB, I tried to give you some rep points but it won't let me.

E-beth and I just recently moved from Pa to Ohio and went with U-Haul cause of the availability and price. We got a big enough truck, Our friends helped us packed our belongings, and I towed my truck the whole way. Never had any problems, mechanical or otherwise. No problems with anything really unless you call driving for 13 hours straight and being up for over 24 a problem. Depends on the dealer I think. Had to get our equipment from Delaware the day before. All the stuff I saw was in good condition and fairly new.

We used a well known moving company for our move. It was around $4,000. We moved 2 hours away. I would not scrap on money with movers! Go with a reputable company. A lot of bad stuff can happen and put you in a frustrating situation unless your moving company takes care of you well. The risk of theft and damage is a concern if you go with a company that doesn't have good insurance, etc.
Good luck,
Lisa

Can U call the Place and ask for the Same Movers?

Since I now live in another state I think requesting that these guys come 4 hours away to move us another 1.5 hours further away would be a bit out of our budget Good idea though, if we still lived in the area that my mom's friend does.

Not to seem uncaring, But, This circumstance sounds like one of the unfortunate ones.
I have moved 6 times in the last 8 years and never once had any problems. Maybe I was lucky, Not sure. Those people have my sympathies.
