• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I've been thinking about what helps us to hold on and not self-injure - what motivates us to keep trying. I think motivation gives us the little boost to get going or to keep going, but there needs an element of commitment with it. I think that without commiting to remaining self-injury free, it's easier to just do so based on our mood.

When the motivation has completed, or if motivation is in another person and they let us down, how do we stay steady? What do we replace the initial motivation with? How do we hold on to our commitment to not SI? Does our spiritual walk impact either motivation or commitment?

I look forward to your thoughts.

In Him,
Kristen

Find hope in small things, If you expect big & it doesnt happen. All thats gonna do is make things worse.
Your favourite song is on the radio or you see a really beautiful flower. Even the small things that make you happy are blessing from God. Hang on to them.
I'm not saying that big blessing wont happen to you, because they will, but between the big things what will you have to hold onto? Hope can die quickly but this can help you keep motivated & hang on to what you do have, not let go because of what you dont.

I am motivated by my Mom and friends. My Mom is so proud of me for overcoming. Everytime I come into her room at the nursing home, her eyes just light up to see me because I am her daughter and she loves me despite my weaknesses and mistakes. That love keeps me going.

I family member rejected me for being a liability and locked me out of the house. My pastor and his wife brought me in, was there for me in my hardest times, and never gave up on me, even when at times I thought they would. Their love and encouragement keeps me going.

My home church motivates me to keep going. The many people who love and care about me and never judge...

And those on CF get me going. Those in these sections who continue to keep up no matter how many times they fail. They get back up and dust off their feet.

And the moderators on these forums who are so very caring to our needs. goldenviolet. Steffi arborvita the recovery mods! They are so sweet and encouraging.

That is why I commit myself to overcoming. Love, care, encouragement... these things have made a huge difference in my life.

And Most of all, the love of God. He did so much for me. I believe in Philippians 4:13 that "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."
