An incident contained in the above referenced sermon (I am a big fan of the scientists of days past who were also devout Christians).

The resurrection of the dead:

Michael Faraday [1791-1867] was one of the great scientists of all time. One day, being a devout Christian, Michael Faraday referred to the resurrection of the dead, and when he did so, he overheard one of his students sneeringly refer to such an impossible come. And Faraday thereupon took a silver cup, and he put it in a jar of sulphuric acid, and the acid dissolved it and you could see the cup no more. It was absolutely gone. It was in solution, in the sulphuric acid. Then Michael Faraday took a handful of common salt, which is a catalytic agent in that, and he put the common salt in the sulphuric acid, and it precipitated the silver, and it fell in a mass to the bottom.

Michael Faraday took the mass of silver at the bottom and took it to a silversmith, and said, “Make this into a beautiful cup.” And he made it into a beautiful cup. And the next day, Michael Faraday brought it back and held it in his hand and showed it to the class. And he said:

My dear pupils, if I, just a mortal man, can make this cup disappear and dissolve and it’s not seen anymore, then re-gather its elements and fashion it again into a beautiful cup, cannot the Lord God who made heaven and earth gather out of the sea and out of the dust of the ground and out of the heart of this earth our elements, wherever they are, indestructible, gather our elements and refashion us into a glorious body, like unto His body, the Son of God?

Galileo Galilei and Isaac Newton were also renowned scientists who professed the Christian faith. Indeed, some of the world's greatest thinkers have belonged to Christ.

Very true. I don't believe there was a single atheist physicist who produced a major new paradigm. Einstein was a very convinced deist - closest, in fact, to a panentheist, who believe in a great designing and creating Spirit.

Good point about scientists who are atheists not uncovering anything novel. Take Richard Dawkins, for example. Dawkins is world-renowned scientist and aggressive advocate for God denial. But what new things has he truly discovered? Only "memes," which aren't anything special in science.

Unfortunately Newton strayed somewhat from the path.

He rejected the Trinity and held ambiguous views on the existence of the immortal soul. He famously rejected the Viaticum at his death and wrote a number of theological works which can only be considered heretical.

I wasn't aware that Isaac Newton rejected the Trinity. When a theological doctrine is clearly inscribed in the Bible such as the Trinity, there isn't any reason to reject what scripture teaches.

Newton wrote a tract against the Trinity which he sent to John Locke.

There is some debate on what he actually believed. Some scholars say he was Arian, others that he rejected both the Trinitarian and Arian positions. Others say he rejected the Western view and held a view closer to non-Chalcedonian oriental groups. It is difficult to say.

In fact, if we had had to rely on the atheist 'scientists', we would not have discovered the quantum world and quantum mechanics, upon which most of industry now relies. Even now they can't believe that paradoxes, inherently repugnant to reason, by very definition. No Everything has to be understandable the the mighty atheist brain, so they are simply counter-intuitive. Imagine having to rely on your intuition to be able to tell that a particle and a wave cannot logically be the same thing !

By their standards, Dickie is probably a trailblazer. Actually I can't believe some of the tosh he's come out with hasn't made him a figure of endless fun. A 'blind watchmaker '! I'll take Paleys' negative metaphor, 'as is', thank you. The selfish gene ! Nothing producing everything.... because nothing in his lexicon doesn't mean 'no thing', but space-filled vacuum foam.

Louis Pasteur was a pioneer in immunology. He is credited with inventing the small pox vaccine. From what I have read, he had studied the Gospels and wanted to heal people. God blessed his healing ministry more than the ministries of many vicars and priests.
