I will be going to a school in the fall that is affiliated with British Columbia Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches and the Mennonite Church in BC.
Its called Columbia Bible College.

So I guess I am just wondering if there are any Mennonite Brethern's out there, and if y'all could tell me what your church is like... or if any of you are from the BC area.. or have been to or heared of CBC??

Thanks God Bless

My background is Mennonite Brethren, but I'm from California. I'm part of a Friends congregation now, since there aren't any MB churches near where I live now.

Mennonite Brethren are the Mennonite denomination that leans farthest in the direction of mainstream North American Evangelicalism. Many MB churches do not even publicize their denominational affiliation locally, using names like "Bible Church." Scratch the surface, and you will often find people with a common ethnic heritage (do you eat zwieback, vereniki, kumpst borscht or moos?) but widely varying amounts of affinity for traditional Anabaptist theology and practice. You also are more likely to find people who do not share the same ethnic heritage than in most other Mennonite denominations.

Mennonite Bretheren is the Canadian branch of the MCA (Mennonite Church of America) but then I think there might be MB in the US too but basically same thing.

Anyway

Mennonite churches will range from very conservative and traditional to like the one I belong to which is Charismatic to the point of being Pentecostal. But you are more likely to see conservative.

Mennonites are absolutely strict Bible beleivers and really concentrate on grace and mercy theologically speaking.

I would suggest dressing very conservatively the first time you go. Maybe even consider wearing a dress (a long dress) and keep a scarf or something you can cover your head with just in case the women there wear "covers" A cover is sort of a mesh hat that you will see them wear covering the bun of their hair. Also if you are not sure if it is conservative I would suggest wearing your hair in a bun. The chances are that it won't be that conservative and well lets face it you won't look out of place with your hair up if no one wears it like that but if they do and that long black hair of yours is down your going to feel out of place.

Lastly no matter what you are going to find the people very welcoming and peaceable. It is the core of what it means to be Mennonite. To show the love of Christ and to be welcoming to strangers. Enjoy yourself and watch out for the deep dish pies at the fellowship suppers they will add weight to you faster than anything.

What a sweet girl you are dear. And what a pretty smile. From somebody elses daddy let me say you make your family proud of you!

Blessings

Nope. Mennonite Brethren is a separate conference in both the US and Canada. Here is the USMB official website. Here is the one for Canada. There are also Mennonite Brethren conferences in several other countries, some (like the one in Paraguay) formed by Mennonite refugees from Europe, and others (like the one in India, which is the largest) as a result of missionary work.

Not necessary in a Mennonite Brethren church. Mennonite Brethren have never adopted "plain" dress and at least during my lifetime have never required headcovering for women. I would suggest dressing modestly. While some are more informal, dressing as you would for business the first time you go to most any church is a good idea.

Well from what I have heared its closer to charasmatic I believe.. I know their childrens ministry is outta this world... and I would have a problem anyways... my hair wont fit ina bun and I dont own a scarf or hat

I would never wear jeans anyways (not until I figured it was acceptable) and I wouldnt ever think of going to chruch dress immodestly anyways.

After some further research Liz is absolutely correct.

I just always for some reason thought Mennonite Bretheren were Canadian only. See how you pick up wrong thoughts!

Based on what the OP said it is probably a lot like our church where it is very charismatic. I only give the advice on plain dress based on where I live and the likelyhood of having a problem with it. (I am right on top of Lancaster PA)

IN our church there are only a very few that hold to plain dress but down Lancaster another story all together. In fact I have been warned if I preach in Lancaster to borrow a plain suit from one of the bretheren lest I offend some one. And at least one church would expect me to arrive in a buggy.

Little one you have a great time out there in BC. The sisters are going to LOVE you! And I bet you will be great with the kids too. Do good in school make us all proud of you. We stand ready in prayer for you always.

Weird. The Mennonites I have met have been quite the opposite; rather casual, and very liberal in thier theology. I have met a few from the Bluffton College community, which I suspect is the extreme liberal end of the MEnnonite spectrum. Lovely folks anyway. There is an excellent Mennonite Centre in London, and I am rather impressed by the nethusiasm and passion of noted Mennonite theologian J Denny Weaver, though I suspect we disagree on many things. I am actually slightly more conservative than him!
