I meant to get round to it but forgot! :o

I use plenty of different translations and have great difficulty remebering things word for word. It may be dyslexia! I concentrate on remembering the concepts and stories and being good at using concordances and search engines to make sure I remembered it right before I quote or exposit.

Aarrgh!,

i am hopeless at memorizing more than a few scriptures. I usually remember them for a few weeks and then forget the chapter/verse number. I find it easier to remember the actual words, but of course this gets frustrating when you forget which chapter it was in! Unfortunately, like high school exams, i could only seem to remember things/information by constant word for word revision. Awful!!

I've memorized several chapters, all relatively short. I find the flow of the ideas helps me to remember. I have also found that memorizing Scripture has helped me do better in school. Maybe it's just like excercising, if you don't do it, you get flabby.

I recently came across a website where a fellow Christian brother recommends memorizing books. I'm the type of person that believes you can do anything if you put your mind to it. I recently started memorizing Ephesians and God is really showing me things through it. If you would like to know the website, let me know.

I have never tried memorization, nor exact chapter and verse locations. But I am pretty good on finding tons of passages and stories by memory, because I have a general idea of where everything is in the Bible.

When I am reading the Bible, and get focused on a specific concept, I will be all over the place. While I do have a ribbon marker in my Bible for cover to cover reading, I would say 75% of my reading comes from flipping all over the place and looking at certain passages when focused on a specific concept.

Does this make sense? I am not sure how well I worded it.

Actually, it does make sense to me, because as as much as it is encouraged ans a good discipline to read "from cover to cover" or a regular reading plan, it is more likely that our immediate needs are going to be addressed by a topical study in the Word of issues we are facing at the time. I would say thay that the daily disciplined reading would be for maintainance for our walk.

Until recently I did not know that were are commanded to know God's Word. And that God wants us to know His Word and meditate on it not only so that we can give an account to other, but to allow Him to bless us. In Joshua 1:8 it says, "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth. But you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success"

I know it's challenging for some of you to memorize scripture, it was with me too, but we must. If anyone needs a memory plan, or even verses to start on, pmme and I will be glad to help. I just think we as Christians are failing this category in every respect.

In His service,
Matt

I began memorizing scripture around 6th grade when I joined an Awana program. In the program, I began memorizing 3 verses a week (in order to keep pace with the material). After a couple of years, I was able to quote several dozen passages at a single sitting.

I have never tried to memorize an entire book because, in the manner in which I use it, this would be less productive than memorizing verses (on topical lines) from various books that aid in my witness or my teaching.

What I will point out to those who have not considered the value in memorization, speaking from personal experience, I can say that the deeper God's word is in your heart, the easier it is for God to speak directly to your heart.

I, like so many others, decided to wander in my late high school and early college years. I can honestly say, even though not attending church, in fellowship with other Christians or studying the bible in any way, it was amazing how many times God could speak to me through the seeds that were already planted because of memorization in earlier years.

My path is not necessarily the path for everyone (for we are all created with individual talents) but I can say, in my life, memorization has been key to my growth as a follower of Christ.

For me i started memorizing about 4 years ago. I've slowed down greatly and right now i have a total of 60 verses. I pick the verses that i like to memorize and get down to memorizing it. I've this program called verse manager that keeps all the verses together. Anyway i'm really interested to continue with my memorizing as i've slackened alot so i hope i can find a partner or some sort of group to memorize together verses.
