• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

    If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

    If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together.   • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Medication changes?

Oh so I decided time to be honest with my psychiatrist. Whee. I know it was a brave and good thing to do. I told him I was still struggling with suicidal thoughts about once a month. I told him my two biggest triggers are stress and hormones. I told him I was doing okay at the moment but had a really hard 4-5 weeks. I told him that I had to take time off of work and leave early a couple of days.

No shock, he wants a medications switch. He wants to add lamictal. Humm. Lamitcal I don't mind. I've been on it before. Only thing is that I felt just about the same as I do now. Which is somewhat stable except for the above forementioned triggers which set me off and stuggle with the occasion dark, violent thoughts.

Here are my problems. He wants to add lamitcal. This means 4 DRUGS!!! CRAZY. seroquel, remeron, and lexapro. NOw i know he wants to add it first to be safe and then take away some, one, two or all of the others. I told him I rely on the seroquel and remeron to help me sleep and eat normally. So take away the seroquel first.

I was able to hold him off for atleast a month. To think about it, pray about and get my head on straight about it.

Truth is I really don't want to be bothered with medication switches. But as i type this out i don't think it would be all this bad. I might even be able to get down to 2.

I don't know. I'm confused. Sorry this was so long.

Honesty with your 'health provider' is a big step, but as you say...a good one. I learned the hard way that 'not telling everything' is not healthy.

It could be different this time Berry. Our systems do change. My belief is that meds are not a 100% cure, perse, and that all they do for me is give me a level 'playing field' to fight certain thoughts of feelings.

It truly does NOT matter how many meds you're on Berry. They all have a purpose. Kinda like, what the scale says doesn't matter...it's whether your clothes fit you.
The sleep thing? Don't know Berry.


As someone who works in HealthCare...I say listen to your doc...and yet he's not God...so.
Glad you are going to pray about it.
Again...don't bother yourself with "how" many pills you have to take...think about finding the ones that work for you.

I really don't know either....I "messed" around with meds for so many years...I do understand the confusion. I know I am just so grateful that 'they' have finally found the meds that my brain seems to need.

BTW...that whole hormonal thing...that's a whole different 'ball game'. (We've chatted about that one , but if you want to chat further about it...you know where to find me )

berry, my brain is not completely awake yet this am, so I cannot come up with the wonderful type answer that prairiegurl did, but I echo all she says. I also hated med changes, but if I had stopped I may never have foudn this one med I am on that works so well for me. I am praying for God to give you and your doctor wisdom with this med change. If you choose to go ahead, may God bless you during the transition time and keep you safe in the shadow of His Wing. Let us know how your are and what happens!
