Hello.

I was wondering if someone could explain to me the EO position on marrying a non-Orthodox (specifically Latin Rite Catholic) Christian? I know that the OO forbids marrying outside of the faith and requires conversion, but is the EO's stance different on this?

Thanks!

Generally, if that person is a Christian who was baptised in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (which a Catholic would have been) then they can marry an EO in the EO Church. They must marry in the Church and they must raise the children EO. For more details specific to a situation, you should talk with the local priest.

our priest says they have to be baptised in the faith. otherwise, they have to be chrismated. yes, if the other person is catholic & baptised w/ the holy trinity it is recognized but problems will arise sooner or later once there are children involved, raising them, ect. so its really important to be on the same page from the get go.

talk to father & see what he says.
