What is blasphemy against the holy spirit?
What is blasphemy against the holy spirit?
Wilfully, knowingly calling the work of the Holy Spirit evil. Or calling Him evil directly. Is there a specific reason you're asking? (New Christians are sometimes accused by the devil of having done this, when in fact they have not)
i recently herd that its when you dont feel guilt for sinning becauce you dont know the holy spirit
i know that the work of the holy spirit is good but when i tried not to think of myself calling the spirit evil the thought popped into my head of me doing just that
<snip>
I've heard it said if you don't know what it means it's highly unlikely you've committed this sin. I agree with that.
I'm surprised at the number of threads throughout cf dealing with people's fears about this one verse. The Lord says we will know Truth when we hear it so I have to ask myself why there's so much confusion on this. Father, open eyes and ears in Jesus name.
OP:
It is true if you don't know what it means, you are guilty of the sin.
You quoted me on this. Actually, that's not what I said.
As for people knowing the truth, they think they do when they have committed this sin because their 'ears and eyes are shut, lest they turn to God and be healed'.
I'm lost which scripture you're referring to here
They can not hear the truth for they do not have the Spirit of Truth, but think that they do.
No one is good but God. So, who are they to think they have the Holy Spirit? They believe they are born of God yet show they can not hear or see?
so true!
no judgement here
As Jesus said, this is for judgment.[/quote]
Could I have this verse please. I'd like to see how you tied this in. I'm a little lost in your thought process here. I see what you're saying but I don't understand how you arrived there.
Thank youGod bless

20Then Jesus entered a house, and again a crowd gathered, so that he and his disciples were not even able to eat. 21When his family heard about this, they went to take charge of him, for they said, "He is out of his mind." 22And the teachers of the law who came down from Jerusalem said, "He is possessed by Beelzebub[c]! By the prince of demons he is driving out demons."
23So Jesus called them and spoke to them in parables: "How can Satan drive out Satan? 24If a kingdom is divided against itself, that kingdom cannot stand. 25If a house is divided against itself, that house cannot stand. 26And if Satan opposes himself and is divided, he cannot stand; his end has come. 27In fact, no one can enter a strong man's house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man. Then he can rob his house. 28I tell you the truth, all the sins and blasphemies of men will be forgiven them. 29But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin."
30He said this because they were saying, "He has an evil spirit."
I was focusing on the original poster, but okay:
Well, that's probably why I was confused.
What is the one sin you can not be forgiven for?
The Scripture here is clear.
The Jews were saying that Jesus "has an evil spirit". And Jesus specifically marked out this blasphemy of theirs by saying "it is an eternal sin".
Now notice here in Mark his own family was saying he was out of his mind.
Now was that the same thing as what the teachers of the Law were saying? We know they are not damned of his own family.
Why is it any sin could be forgiven, but this?
Is it true if you say of a Holy Spirit full Christian "they are demon possessed" that then you have committed an eternal sin from which you can never be forgiven?
How would that make sense at all?
No. The sin the Pharisees were showing when they said what they said was not recognizing the Holy Spirit in Jesus: because they assumed He had a worse spirit then they had. So in thinking their own spirit was greater then the Spirit of Jesus they blasphemed the Holy Spirit (which is the Spirit of Jesus).
How can they be forgiven for that?
It is not a sin for which there is something one might be forgiven: one may either be born again or not.
If you are not born again you will not be free of that sin, if you are born again you will be free of that sin.
It is not something to be forgiven that your spirit can do no good deeds, it is something to be changed.
