That may have been true in the pre-Intel days.
Still true, actually.

Well, I must admit I did get that virus by clicking on something that looked very much like Windows Security! But still, I know plenty of techies who've been infected.
They were probably looking at porn or pirating stuff. Which is the best way to get a virus these days.

If UR SuperTech...then more power too ya. But most folks are not.
It really says something about the Mac fanboys when they boast about buying a product that caters to their own incompetence. Most people boast about something they've actually accomplished. Linux fanboys are annoying too, but I have to at least give them credit for knowing their stuff. If people need the simplicity of the Mac, that's fine, they can buy them. But don't boast about how they're better than PCs when you don't know what you're talking about.

Windows 7 (which you mention further down...looks halfway decent I must say) better be Moses on wheels cuz Vista ain't cutting it. It's just XP with a slick finish.
I'm afraid you've just proven my previous point here. Vista, like it or not, has many under-the-hood changes from XP in addition to Aero Glass.

Besides, Macs come loaded with an array or software that'd cost you a pretty penny for the PC. What does a PC come with?
Calculator.
I can get whatever doesn't come out of the box for Windows that I need for free. Legitimately.

twistedsketch summed it up quite nicely.

I'm no supertech, I just know not to open every attachment I get from Aunt Edna or click on the "YOUR PC HAS A VIRUS!!! CLICK HERE!!!" Popups. Anyone with a small amount of common sense can figure this stuff out and prevent from getting a virus.

I chose Vista not because it's "XP with a slick finish". In fact, it looks quite bland on the studio computer because I'v turned off everything in order to get the most of my power, which is needed when I'm running 122 track symphonic samples at once. No, I got Vista for it's greatly improved memory management, which is needed for production when working with so many samples and VSTs as I do. Aero isn't even turned on.

On my laptop, I make use of the much better security features Vista has over XP... Sure, it looks pretty, but it's also very functional, and contrary to popular belief, very fast.

Finally, again, twisted hit it right on. The key is something called OPEN SOURCE. There are 1000x more programs in development by independant companies and coders for PC than there are for mac. I don't need any of that iLife trash that comes with Mac. Heck, most of it is starter programs anyway that become useless to anyone who is serious about using that type of software. Sure, I can record a garageband sounding song in garageband, but I can create a professional sounding masterpiece in Sonar. Oh, but wait, Mac has LOGIC, oh... that's not free.

Point being, it comes with an array of entry level software. That's nothing to brag about when I can take my PC and download free open source programs that tear those programs to shreads.

Wow. All kinds of FUD in there.

1) You run an antivirus every day? Wow. I haven't run one on my Mac ever. Why? No OSX viruses. None. Not one. You're proud that you have been diligent against a constant threat. I'm proud that there is no threat.

2) Viruses are always the fault of the user? Come on. You're just trying to start a fight.

3) Mac fanboys being desperate? How's that? We found a more stable platform. It has no viruses or spyware. You feel like a BIG MAN because you run apps on your PC to fight that threat. We point this fact out. You call us "fanboys". Who's desperate exactly?

4) The "security through obscurity" argument has never and will never hold water. Apache servers outnumber IIS (a Microsoft product, chief) but IIS has waaaay more compromises every year and is exploited like a mug as a result. "Security through obscurity" is a form of FUD, and smacks of... well... desperation: "OH YEAH? WELL HOW MANY MACS ARE THERE? SO THERE!!"

*sigh*

Go back to your toys. The grown-ups are talking now.

Incompetence? Maybe some of us work on machines all day every day and when we get home, we simply want to use a machine that just works for us. Why are you trying to start a fight, exactly? Did your parents beat you with a Performa when you were little?

Most people boast about something they've actually accomplished.

And your accomplishments include running antivirus software! You are our geek king! W00T!

My PC just works for me just fine. If you prefer Macs, that's fine, but this whole fanboyism is totally ridiculous.

Why are you trying to start a fight, exactly?
I'm not. If there's a fight going on, it's not one that I started.

"Fanboyism" implies we love our Macs and other Apple items without criticism or any sense of reality. Based on that, I'd likely refer to you as an irrational hater of Apple products, simply because you spread FUD rather than look at the issue reasonably and logically.

And yes, you are trying to start a fight. There's no other explanation for the things you've said.

Based on what you've said, you fit the bill perfectly.

Based on that, I'd likely refer to you as an irrational hater of Apple products, simply because you spread FUD rather than look at the issue reasonably and logically.
I've used Apple products alongside PC products. I don't have nearly as many problems with Apple products as I do with people like you who, out of ignorance, rudely put down the product I choose to use. I don't think of myself as better, or more significant or anything like that because I use a PC. I use a PC for its value, its flexibility, and because it will run anything I want it to run. I like to run games for play, and graphics software for work. The graphics software I got it for specifically is first and foremost a Windows application, and is widely used professionally. So when you go on about how much better Macs are because they're better tools, easier to use and more expensive, you just sound ridiculous and immature. No viruses, big deal. It's not as if running antivirus software is a pain in the butt here - and besides, even Apple is going against that claim now because they're recommending antivirus software for Macs. Spyware and hacking, big deal. I run a firewall, not that hard, and I've never been hacked. If there's a security patch that I need, Windows automatically gets it for me. If there's a patch I need that it doesn't get, then it's in a program that you can also get for the Mac, so I don't really see a Mac advantage. I also haven't had a spyware problem in what was it, two years?

Yeah, user's of PCs can get viruses by pirating and whatnot.
But Mac user's can't.
That's the point.

In addition to Aero Glass? You mean like Gadgets??
(a *straight* Mac ripoff...)

Mac users can get tons of free stuff too.
What's your point?

They're sellin' iPhones at WalMart now~I think the "elitist" shine has kinda knocked off
Apple has hit Wal-Mart and Best Buy.

The "elite" arument is way tired.

I mean the changes to the kernel that make Vista harder to hack than a Mac.

My point is that I don't care about the extras that come with a Mac that you brag about.

Apple has hit Wal-Mart and Best Buy.

The "elite" arument is way tired.
If somebody impartial came to this thread, I'm pretty sure that they'd see the Mac elitism is alive and well.

The elite argument especially fails to hold up when you cannot find a comparably-equipped PC for a significantly better price.

On top of that, Macs can run OS X *and* Windows on the same machine. Why would I pay for a single OS machine when I can buy one that can run both (and Linux)?

Why would I pay for a Mac when I know I'm going to need to run Windows anyway, and when I don't need a Mac for anything? When I consider what I need a computer for, it makes no sense for me to do something like that, since I would be paying extra money for something I don't need.

I'm not asking you to buy anything. I'm asking you to understand why I do. Stop assuming this discussion is about you.
I can understand that. But that doesn't excuse your rudeness.

Where does Mac say run AV? Link please.
If you are hinting that Macs are getting hit with even one virus, I await a link proving that as well.

Yeah, I know what you meant. That's why I use smileys. You have been online before, right? lol

I'm no Mac elite. I run Mac and Windows everyday. Keep up.

I can understand that. But that doesn't excuse your rudeness.
So you can dish it out, but not take it?
Looks like someone needs to pull their big-boy pants up!
