  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Luke wrote Acts to Theophilus (sp?), correct? Throughout the book, there are places where he mentions "we." Some of those passages where Luke says "we" even follow Paul on his journey to Malta, etc. (his journey as a prisoner). Did Luke accompany Paul on these journeys, or was it more of a historical second-hand account? I'd appreciate any insight.

Thanks!

Yes, although it may not be an actual person.

St Luke did travel with St Paul. See Colossians 4:14 and 2 Timothy 4:11.

Based on what? Just curious here.....
Theo = God
philo = friend or lover

Theophilus = God lover, could be a specific person OR it may be a generic term used for all God-lovers. As Luke/Acts is written from a universal perspective, it could be that Luke meant to address all of those who love God.

However, the immiate context of Acts 1:1 seems to indicate a real person.

I would agree with this.

Ahh, but of course you should not agree with my spelling!!!! What the heck is "immiate?" I meant "immediate!" I never have been one to use a spellchecker.
