I saw this brought up in this forum. These verses suggest that believers in Christ are not to keep company with those who call themselves believers but walk in these sins..If Christians follow this to protect their church, is this still being loving? Are theses verses taken out of context as some may say, are they outdated and fundegelicals take them to seriously..Should they not be practiced today?

9 I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators:
10 Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world.
11 But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.
12 For what have I to do to judge them also that are without? do not ye judge them that are within?
13 But them that are without God judgeth. Therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person

Back then they were very serious about avoiding sinners and heretics.

Is it still today's philosophy?

Basically we dont know what other ppl do. And we dont ask. So the wheat and tares will grow up together and hopefully the wheat will pray for the tares and the tares will see the good from the wheat and seek how to be like them.

But it is always best to avoid letting them affect you. The weak in faith can stumble thru their philosophies and lose faith.

So it is best to be kind, show love, but not to allow them to persuade you, lest you lose faith.
And we can judge the sin and counsel them...without condemning them. For no one knows someone elses heart...and how that heart in secret could be drawing near to God.

Dear Warrior Angel,
Ah but as well as talking about the wheat and the tares, which was part of a parable, Jesus also said repent from sin and described sexual sin as fornication and adultery outside marriage, see Matt 15 & 19, Mark 7 & 10. This is why the church has always upheld this.
But the question was should it be practiced today, you seem to be suggesting it should.

However what Jesus said about the wheat and tares was part of a parable in that the enemy came and sowed the tares which at harvest time will we gathered up and burnt. I have always thought this meant we are not to carry out the punishment ie burn the tares.
But which argument did you mean by the wheat and who by the tares? which one will be burnt?

Perhaps this one is better understood by looking at another transaltion.

9I have written you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— 10not at all meaning the people of this world who are immoral, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters. In that case you would have to leave this world. 11But now I am writing you that you must not associate with anyone who calls himself a brother but is sexually immoral or greedy, an idolater or a slanderer, a drunkard or a swindler. With such a man do not even eat.

It's a prohibition to not keep these people in the fellowship. We are not to associate anyone who calls himself a brother and does these things.

We can associate with nonbelievers who do these things because we are to witness the truth to them.

I guess you are applying the tares as the one appearing to be in Christ, yet by their actions they are sending a different message...As for the burning, are you trying to say by not fellowshipping with them we are burning them??
