You know my sister just got married right? She saved a fortune by buying two dozen roses (she had 8, bridesmaids 4 each) and NOT telling them it was for a wedding. (and the red contrasted beautifully with the black bridesmaids dresses).

As for V day nonsense, move to Australia, the corporate world doesn't have it's fingers as firmly in the holiday pie here yet.

mmhmm. I'm not a huge fan either. Maybe it'll change if i ever get to experience a happy valentine's day with someone i love, but I haven't had that. my most miserable valentine's days were when i was in a relationship. he always forgot. and when you've waited your entire life to celebrate valentine's day with someone, that kind of thing tends to be a let down.

Since I've been single, its pretty much just turned into single awareness day for me. This year I'm hiding out somewhere and waiting for the day to pass.

My ex-husband filed for divorce on Valentines day. So, I'm thinkin that pretty much anybody can impress me after that.





ON the serious note:

IMO: It can be a big to-do or just a "I couldn't wait to come home to you today" for Valentines because Valentines day only means something when I'm being swept off my feet by small gestures the other 364 days of the year.

Great thread title.

As a single guy, I do my best to ignore Valentine's Day. If I were in a relationship, however, I'd gladly take my girlfriend out to dinner. I might even give her a heart-shaped box of chocolates, or do something more creative.

It's always been a really bittersweet day for me. Some years I feel worse, others I just have a stronger pull of nostalgia. In high school it was a mixture of difficult things and circumstances, with only a couple (albeit strong and important) good memories. So it's generally a really conflicted day.

Flip side of the coin: During the time I was in a relationship, I gave her stuff on Valentines Day. She gave me-- a silver new-nothing on pink polka-dot wheels. The last V-Day I had with her, she gave me a hard time about my supposed aberrations with the kittycat. No, I'm not making that up.

I knew she loves stuffed animals, so a teddy bear was an absolute must. Of course the box of candy and the card that says "I love you". I made a point of not forgetting V-Day or our anniversary or any of the birthdays, and-- I'm an "ex". Go figure.

I note that typically, Valentines Day commercials all run the same way. He falls down at her feet and worships her, he may get a kiss if he's lucky. I may have missed something, but I really don't recall a lot of commercials where she's getting him something for Valentine's Day.

These days, I'm not in a relationship so it's doubtful that I'll either give or get something for the day. And, maybe that's as it should be.

i work in retail, and V-Day is indeed a money making thing and pointless, tho usefull sometimes, like the other day i wanted a cup of tea at work, all the cups are dirty, and there where some nice patterned designed cups, so i bought one, and made myself a cup of tea , and now have a lovely heart pattern mug , result ><
