What do YOU do, when you long for something so much it hurts, but you know it will never be.
Chuck.
Chuck.
The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.
If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.
If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hi T.Try to remember that God gives us what we need so if there's something I want that I don't have then I'm not supposed to have it. It's not easy but God's timing and plans are always perfect.
T.
Thanks Kim.,Chuck:
The one constant in my life is the Lord, and from my own life experiences, I have come to realize just how much I need Him and need to stand in His presence. I listened to a sermon about prayer the other day and it really hit home for me. Prayer takes on many forms, but the best way to stand in His presence is to talk to the Lord throughout the day. I talk to Jesus as if He were a friend and standing at my side. I thank Him for all the little daily things that I take for granted. Thank Him for helping me find my keys. Helping me to motivate when I don't feel like motivating. The list is endless.
As for longing, the best way to maneuver around that issue is to redirect thinking and move past that which we long for. If a thought binds, it can also free. When human desire dictates my moods, I have to stand back and ask myself, "what master am I serving and who's will am I fulfilling?" These to questions get me back to ground zero.
Apostle Paul talked about contentment no matter the circumstance. We should long for Christ and seek contentment with what we have and where we are standing at any given time. This is the focal point I try to maintain these days.
You hear the expression "live within your means." Well, "think within your means" seems to be my motto these days.
Stay in the now. Past is gone and the future belongs to the Lord. God gives us "right now." God is and salvation is right now. Leave the future to God and keep your thoughts in the present. Contentment will rush in when you stay present and in God.
Look for the good around you. Look for the good that is happening in your life right now. Keep those thoughts fresh in your mind.
May you find His peace in you and may you stay in His gift of "now." May you find contentment.
God bless you brother,
Kim
Good morning Chuck! What do YOU do, when you long for something so much it hurts, but you know it will never be.
Chuck.
I don't know how to reply to this for some reason.Good morning Chuck!
I know what you mean...but WHAT I did was to pray to God to deliver me from the sadness of wanting something THAT I can't have! IT worked...REALLY JUST ask THE DEAR LORD to help you through this longing and TO TAKE the burdon off of your shoulders!!!!....
JUST pray with ALL OF YOUR HEART!!! IT DOES WORK!
God be with you dear brother!!!!!
Hi,Kim, that was beautiful and succinctly put.
Chuck, maybe it would help you to sit down and analyze precisely what it is you are longing for? It may seem to be one thing on the surface but if you get right down to it, what is it you are longing for?
I long to be out in the country, away from this city. That's where I'm from and that's where I belong. I'm a fish out of water here. Being here goes against every fiber of my being. I hate it. I cry. "Take me home, country road, to the place, I belong..." (That's a song.)
What it boils down to is that I long for peace and quiet. I long for neighbors who are not so caught up in their lives and "things" that they lose sight of what's important. I long for the beauty of nature that screams out God in a million ways.
Peace and quiet, friends I have things in common with, and a closer relationship with God. When I analyze it, that's what I'm longing for.
And those things can be found even here in the big city. I just have to try harder. I do hope to get out of this God-forsaken place someday though!
How do you handle your feelings of longing. Or don't you do so well?I know what you are feeling right now.
Thanks for sharing.I suffer from it constantly.
It may be from an overactive imagination (for me anyway).
Like InHisGripKim said 'staying in the present' is helpful.
I will try it.
I long so much for someone out of reach.
Everytime I see something that reminds me of her I have a terrible pain of longing.
You are not alone in your aloneness.
Yeah, I know.I know how you feel man. I haven't been able to see my own son in years and it really hurts.
In my case, the only thing that has really helped is time, although it is never easy.
