An Original Work / March 30, 2022

Loneliness and longing
Want to feel belonging
Searching for direction
Asking God a question

What on earth’s my purpose?
Am I just a goofus?
Do I really matter?
Am I torn and tattered?

Am I just a nothing?
Or do I have something
In me that is useful?
Can I now be fruitful?

Jesus has the answer
He is now your purpose
He’ll give you direction,
Answering your questions.

He gave His life for you
So you’d walk in His truth
Set you free from your sin
So you’d be forgiven

He says turn from your sin
Walk in His ways, in Him
Follow where He leads you
He will be to you true

Fellowship with Him now
Before Him your heart bow
Make Him Lord and Master
Not ‘twill be disaster

Peace and joy He’ll give you
He’ll show you what is true
Show you what’s your purpose
To give Him your worship

Lol that line was awesome

Have you ever felt like that? Like a goofus? I have before. The emotions described in the poem are ones I went through before, usually because of how other people treated me, until I learned that other people's opinions of me didn't have to impact me, i.e. when I learned they had no power over me. One time I even said to God, "But God, you don't understand!" I was quite young then, but I honestly believed God didn't understand.

I had a lot to learn, and a lot I learned through "the school of hard knocks," i.e. through being treated badly by others. But God was preparing me for what he had for me to do which involves me having to not let other people's opinions of me shape who I am but me trusting the Lord with my life and letting him make me into who he wants me to be. The Lord gave me this poem to write to encourage others who have had those same feelings about themselves to let them know that God can change all of that if we trust him.

Amen brother, ya I've definitely felt like a goofus before but it's all part of maturing and at the end of the day you're right we shouldn't let other's opinions of us have power over us, at the end of the day the only opinion that matters is God's and He is never changing.

Actually, I am a sister, not a brother. I am a 72 year old woman, a wife of almost 50 years to my husband, a mother of four, and a grandmother to 14 grandchildren. My name is Sue Love. And actually, we were all goofuses at one time, walking in sin, truly being stupid, not just feeling as though we are stupid. But the poem gives us God's biblical response to our stupidity. Jesus died on that cross that we might die with Christ to sin and live to God and to his righteousness. He gave us purpose and direction. He taught us to deny self, to die daily to sin, and to follow him in obedience. And it is there we find peace and joy.
