• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

That would be a perfect description of the creationists that come in here. They post, are shown to be utterly wrong, and run away. Only those who are immune to reason stay in.

If you say so, chief.

I have been here longer than you have, so I think I know.

I believe you.

I've see it happen too.

I tell my wife sometimes, "Poor [new poster], he's about to get vegomaticked."

But coming here, then leaving because you've been vegomaticked is one thing.

Coming here just to vent & ridicule, then moving on is something else.

You do remember the one guy that was here that literally yelled at us, don't you?

He and his ... what I later termed "goon squad" ... all filed out of here one-by-one after I threatened to report him; and I even offered to hold the door for them.

Jazer? Yeah, I remember him.

P.S.: Creationists get away with doing a lot more ridiculing and yelling than atheists ever will in this forum.

Jazer?

No ... his initials are VS.

P.S.: What you apparently don't realize is that you run the risk of blaspheming Jesus Christ when you guys say some of the things you do.

So it's twice harder on you guys, than it is us; because there are things that are sacred to us that you guys also ridicule.

Ridicule evolution? meh.

Ridicule the Cross? goodbye.

Jazer, Jamin, JohnR7, call him what you will.

P.S.: What you apparently don't realize is that you run the risk of blaspheming Jesus Christ when you guys say some of the things you do.

Yet, you can ridicule evolution, scientists or even the entirety of science as much as you want (while of course, making use of it).

So it's twice harder on you guys, than it is us; because there are things that are sacred to us that you guys also ridicule.

No, we don't ridicule them. If we did, we would be gone.

Ridicule evolution? meh.

I know you are past that, you are now ridiculing the people that accept it. Who was it that said to hate the sin and love the sinner? I can't quite remember.

Ridicule the Cross? goodbye.

Exactly.

Yet worshiping the cross is akin to worshiping an idol. Several sects of Christianity do not use the cross because of that.

And blasphemy is largely in the eyes of the beholder. To me calling the Bible the word of God is blasphemy. It clearly has too many flaws to be God' word. It may teach an important lesson, but it is due worship no more than any other man made object.

Or worshiping the Bible, or a specific translation of it for that matter.

It only teaches an important lesson after you "dispense" 80% of the old testament and 40% of the new.

Nor can I.

The original saying is: Hate the sin, convert the sinner.

Ridiculous ideas are worthy of ridicule. Hovind's entire career is predicated on intentionally misrepresenting the truth in order to sell a widget. It's more than reprehensible, and in Hovind's case, criminal. If those are your poster boys for reality, then you're in poor company.

AV, you're an adult, surely you realize that "flood waters on Neptune, embedded age, the Ark in NJ, etc." are ridiculous, right?

As for converting sinners, I can't think of a more arrogant position to take than having a pious judgmental attitude toward other adults. I guess if that makes you feel justified in your beliefs, then it's ok, huh?

When they lie? Yes. The moderators don't like lies either.

So would we, if we ridiculed them.

I wonder why you don't...

It has been made clear to me that personal attacks will not be tolerated; and I couldn't agree more.

When you say that science is to blame for abortion or that "scientists" are to blame for the deaths caused by thalidomide and the challenger accident, many scientists (myself included) will take that as a personal attack.

Nor can I.

The original saying is: Hate the sin, convert the sinner.

It was St. Augustine, the original saying is "with love for mankind and hatred of sins".

Would you take it as a personal accomplishment if a scientist discovered a cure for cancer?
