A light year is a measure of time. Somewhat like an hourglass. If we transported an hourglass to the far reaches of the universe, for all we know, it would not take an hour for the grains to fall. Likewise, if we were there, would time even exist? If so would it exist as we on earth know it? The answer is we do not know. Therefore a light year can not be a measure of distance anywhere that time does not exist, and exist exactly as we know it here!

Without distances all of stellar evolution crumbles into dust.

Cool.

Between dad, Gottservant and Kevinmaynard, I think we finally made them snap.
Adding to the comedy here is your apparent total inability to comprehend even the basics. Maybe ask someone who knows, and get back to us later.

Like I have said before, CF needs a comedy section.
Any good teacher can incorporate comedy into lessons. I guess the fact that you seem to detect some, at least indicates you are part way down comprehension highway.

One of the basics is that an hourglass needs gravity to operate...Where is the gravity in deep space? It does not exist..

We need not just gravity, but for that gravity to work to pull the grains down or up the right direction, so that it takes one hour. We need time itself to exist also I would think.

See, no gravity in space, so no timey whimey.

To know that it is gravity exerting the force we observe from earth, and gravity alone -we would need to have more information. For example how far away the object is, so we can estimate true mass. Distance involves time. Ha.

We can see time pass in distant reaches of the Universe, so it exists there. Distance and time are both intrinsic characteristics of our universe.

Also, your hourglass example is exactly the same as the lightyear example. In the hourglass, you are measuring the movement of sand from one spot to the other. That is a distance.

Therefore a light year can not be a measure of distance anywhere that time does not exist, and exist exactly as we know it here!

Luckily, your fantasies about the universe being different outside of Earth's fishbowl is nothing but your crackpot nonsense.

No. You can see time pass on earth!!!! This is where it passes for us.

Also, your hourglass example is exactly the same as the lightyear example. In the hourglass, you are measuring the movement of sand from one spot to the other. That is a distance.

Both require time. Something you don't have for the far universe. So stop trying to pretend you do and invoke it for distance!

You do know that travel means moving over a distance, right?
It means more than that when we talk about going through all time and space! After all, time is different even mere inches from one point to another going up from earth. Imagine how different it could be real far away!!
