  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am not just saying poor people. I think there are very wealthy people who should not be allowed to have children. Brittney Spears is one of them.

I was just using that as an example.

My exhusband was a fireman. His crew helped a woman have her 10th child, she was only 30. They lived in a 3 bedroom apartment and not one of them had the same dad. Can you honestly say that she should keep having kids?

What I can honestly say is that it is neither my business nor in my control. There is only one Creator of life.

I don't believe that you've lived such a sheltered life to have never encountered a family or a person who's situation can poke many holes in your theory.

I think that every girl child should have a birthcontrol divice implanted when they are born. It should not be removed until you are able to prove you can provide for a child financially an emotionally.

And it would be a cold day in heck before anyone would be doing this to MY baby girl!!

lol - me too

God has more wisdom than man. I NEEDED to be a teenage mom and I grew and became a productive human being because of it (and it likely saved my life).

I'm thankful he allows us to make mistakes, and lets us prosper from them anyway.

Laurie, I did ask that the responses be kept in general terms and not to be made to be specific. Both of these examples are of specific people and this is why I can already see the thread heading in a negative direction. If you are unable to abide by the conditions I have laid out in my thread, could you kindly start your own thread? I dislike having a poster threadjack.

Ultimately, Mya, you are right. But I was just posting this in a hypothetical sense and not a "for real" post. I hope you are not reading too much into this, I'm not asking us to play God just what you may think are some of the basic requirements to hopefully ensuring a person is ready and capable to parent.

Ah, I see. I am just doing my part in keeping things copasetic. I love a good debate but I don't like to see people hurt. As long as we can keep it general and not specific, then hopefully no one will take anything personally as this is a controversial topic. Never mind me then....lol

I have a small problem with your post. In theory it would be kinda nice to have no teen pregnancies BUT if I am not mistaken it usually takes both a male and female to reproduce, so is it not unfair/judgemental for only female children to be temporarily sterilized?

in answer to the OP's question, a parenting license would be nice in theory! Like other posters have said, there is just too many variables and styles and legistics to consider for it to work in these United States.
I also would never have a baby sterilized or a birth control devise implanted for any reason.
And I most certainly would not want our country to become like China where there is forced abortion for any reason.
Just my humble opinion!

What!!! The thought of that just floors me. So you are saying that some device should be created which prevents reproduction until it's removed and then inserted into newborn baby girls? Wow. I would never allow such a thing to be done to my daughter. I'm so glad you aren't in the position to make such a decision.

Maybe you should rethink this one a bit.

I think the idea sounds nice, but there is no possible way it could be done. We would have to assume that those who were denied a license to parent wouldn't go on to have a child anyway. There would be no lawful way to enforce a law like this.

Nope; strongly disagree with any sort of lisencing. Firstly just because some parents choose to parent in unorthodox ways does not necessarily make them bad parents. Children are unique & individual & one size does not fit all.

Secondly God doesn't requite a lisence of us. He gives us free choice. How we exercise that becomes our responsibility & unlike the govt He can hold us ultimately responsible. That is much scarier than any govt policies.

Thirdly I agree with the poster who believes the govt interfers too much already.

Everone keeps saying that the government could never enforce this kind of thing but in reality it is exactly what was happening in China.
The govt. actually had staff that kept record on every female and even monitored their cycles and made certain they were purchasing bc pills. Abortions are a daily occurance and mutiple abortions are just a fact of life there.
So while it is not likely to ever happen here don't think that it can't.
An interesting thing I saw recently suggested that if only the first two kids were tax deductions and after that the rest of the children be taxed as liability's the US could cut down the birth rate and lessen it's carbon footprint!!!

YIKES!

While the theory could be interesting it would be too hard to implement on any worth while scale. However I think if one's lost parental rights for other kids they shouldn't be allowed to keep having children and keeping the custody of those kids. It's like Oh yeah messed up with that one but I can have another. So maybe a license not to have kids.

Then again even those ideas which sound 'good' in theory would and will be warped to fit the ideals of those in charge. So then income, race, disability etc etc would come into play and yeah don't they say the road to hell is paved with good intentions?

The idea sounds good.....But as others have mentioned, there are too many variables and what ifs.

Like, what if you get pregnant before you get a liscense? Are you going to be forced to get an abortion? What is the government going to do to prevent that from happening? Require all non liscensed women to be on birth control wether they agree with it or not? What are they going to require you to do to get that liscence? Follow morals and practices that you personally don't agree with?

I think that such a thing would be taking away our rignts and invading our privacy.

It would be wonderful to put an end to accidental (or even in some cases, planned) pregnancies to women who are in no state to care for a child, but a liscense to parent just goes too far.

Somebody mentioned above about a device to be implanted in baby girls that will sterilize them until it is removed when they can prove they can provide for a child.....That's such a horrible thought. It seems like our world really is becoming like the world portrayed in the book "Brave New World".

Sorry if i come off a bit strong here but it is compleatly wrong for one to have to get a lisence to have kids. Yeah the idea seems nice and cozy but it is not right. It also means that the government would be ripping away one of the most basic freedoms not to mention it violates our privecy if this were to happen where would the government stop. Whats to stop them from knocking down your door when they even suspect you are well i think you know what i mean. this would go way to far. Also a device implanted in a baby girl to prevent them from being fertile now that is beyond wrong. Noone should be able to say what we can and cannot do in our own place andno one should make you implant something that would be aainst your will. I mean if you volenteer for the implant to make you sterale as a form of contraception that is a different story but implanting something in a girl who cannot make a choice is rediculace. It is like someone implanting a chip inside of you against your will
