  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Would it be too much to ask you 'highly-educated' academicians to shut your cupboard doors and answer Dove's point?

Already did - it's not speculative, it's an attempt to garner even more evidence for the Big Bang theory.

The intent of the thread was to talk in terms of logic, not your anti-science fanaticism.
I would say the 'intent of this thread' died when you guys opened your cupboard doors.

Let's bring it back a notch - this was a thread about science - perhaps it died when the person you are defending started spouting off nonscientific nonsense about something he doesn't understand, as ever.

But no - always the scientists' fault, eh AV?

Not what we say, it's what we are.

You want us to believe that this universe started out as a liquid, and I'm not buying it.

You guys can -- just like you automatically and w/o question accepted that article on Pluto, until a real astronomer (okay, close to being one) showed up and made you guys look silly.

Now, you're going to repeat the same thing again; and again, I'm not going to automatically buy into it, despite anyone's ridicule.

You want us to believe that this universe started out as a liquid, and I'm not buying it.

As someone pointed out, it chimes with a 5-minute literalistic interpretation of a handful of Bible verses (you know, the kind of thing you do constantly, like with the "Solomon predicted evolution" and "you're going to work for the antiChrist" garbage) so why aren't you all over it?

You guys can -- just like you automatically and w/o question accepted that article on Pluto, until a real astronomer (okay, close to being one) showed up and made you guys look silly.

Except we didn't, but you insist on repeating this falsehood. Not caring =/= accepting without question.

Now, you're going to repeat the same thing again; and again, I'm not going to automatically buy into it, despite anyone's ridicule.

Except this is a piece of research based on empirical evidence, not renaming a piece of terminology, so it's not really the same thing, but don't let that stop you.

You want to avoid ridicule? Choose a decent reason to object to something for once, instead of strawmen and constantly siding against science by default.

This might be a little off the subject here, but I got a chuckle recently when I learned the duke or duchess or queen or someone over your way tripled the cost of your education.

You guys complain so much that everyone needs an education -- well, you got a good one -- in the form of basic economics in the form of what's called supply-and-demand, didn't you?

Be careful what you ask for.

Wanna yak some more about how we all need an education?

Go right ahead -- you'll yak yourselves out of your life savings.

Parliament.

Not really - little more complicated than that.

The whole point is, now not everyone will be able to be educated.

Be careful what you ask for.

Science research, on the other hand, is surviving the cuts a little better.

Keep the tax money coming, beneficiaries.

In the meantime, attempt to be on topic, and for heaven's sake don't try and be a smart-alec about the politics of other people's countries when you don't even know what their legislature involves (duchess?!?!!?) - it's even more painful than watching you try to debate science.

This is exactly why people like you need keeping well away from the education system

Thankfully you are.

Keep coughing up the cash in the mean time - you can still keep benefitting from science the way your kind always have done, scrounger.

I think AVET is mixing up two stories. Parliament voted on tripling tuition fees. While this vote was happening, students were protesting in London about it. While these protests / riots were going on, a car with Prince Charles and his wife (the Duchess of Cornwall) got caught up in the riots while on their way to the Royal Variety Performance. But the Prince and Duchess themselves had nothing to do with tripling the tuition fees.

Yes, there was something on the news about a limo with a duke and duchess riding inside -- or something.

I didn't catch the whole story.

I only saw the look on her face.

Right, exactly - because if he knew even the basics of Britain's governance he'd know that the monarchy and aristocracy have no input on legislature, regardless of how they were involved in the story.

It's like saying that American legislation is mediated by The Simpsons. Really, if someone's going to attempt to be a smart-mouth, one should get their facts right at least.

And somehow you're able to pull an anti-education claim out of thin air from the look on someone's face.
