• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I know as a former self-cutter that the emotional scars are deep and it is hard to forget them. These are some scriptures that will help everyone overcome the guilt from past sins. Remember a sin is a sin and God does not value sin, the world values sin.

Romans 4:7-8 "Blessed are they
whose transgressions are forgiven,
whose sins are covered.
Blessed is the man
whose sin the Lord will never count against him."

Transgressions- lawlessness, rebelion against God.

We have to let go of past sins and this happens when we come to salvation with Jesus and repent. The moment that we repent and ask forgiveness the slate of our past life is wiped clean and the spirit enters are body. From that point on we have to feed the spirit in our heart with the word and participate in fellowship at church. Through fellowship you can find others that will give you support and love. Remember when we accept salvation we become living vessels for the spirit of Jesus to operate in. We have different gifts according to the grace given us. We will all have different skills which we use as the body of Christ to help one another grow and succeed in our daily walk.

We have to learn to turn that guilt into joy which happens when:
1. We quit denying our guilt and recognize that we have sinned. Don't hold on to your guilt because it will eat at you and get you depressed. It will also lead to anxiety. I know it is hard but find someone who you can trust and let it all out. If we hold on to emotional scars and don't admit them we cant overcome them.

2. We need to admit our guilt and ask for forgiveness. Jesus will always extend his mercy upon us. His love for us in neverending and he will nurture you through your struggles and recovery. When you feel guilty that you are not worthy and get depressed just cry out to Jesus and ask for his strength. It is ok to cry because it tenderizes the heart and the spirit strengthens it with righteousness.

3. We need to let go of our guilt and have faith that God has forgiven us. All we need to do is confess with our mouth that we sinned and then ask for forgiveness. At that second it is cleansed with the blood of Jesus. When Jesus died on the cross he died for the sins of the world and the shedding of his blood forgives all sin.

I know it is hard because the sin of cutting is deep and it has taken root on our consciences. It breaks are heart to admit why we do it but we can't recover on our own. We can only turn it over to Jesus and let him mend our hearts and heal our emotional scars. This is why we need to renew our minds by the spirit. Our current minds will continue to haunt us of the past and it will be hard to overcome. We need to learn how to block those thought patterns and rebuke those thoughts in Jesus name.
In 2 Corinthians 10:5 say I take these thoughts captive and make them obedient to Christ. What you are doing is taking those tempting thoughts and urges, taking control of them and making those thoughts obey Christ Jesus. All sinful thoughts are diminished when they face Christ for he conquers all sin and evil powers. Remember God's word declares that sins that are confessed are sins that are forgiven.

To renew our minds we have to feed our hearts with the word. When we come to salvaton the Holy Spirit enters our hearts and this is where the truths of the bible get written. At first we need to train our minds to read. Do not power read but rather focus on one chapter at a time and when you don't understand ask the Holy Spirit to interpret it for you or ask someone with more knowledge of the word to explain it to you. I would focus in Romans for it focusses on overcoming sin, salvation, growth, sovereignty, and service.

Also in Romans 5:8 it says But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners Christ died for us. God sent Jesus to die for us not because we were good enough but because he LOVED us. Whenever you are depressed or feel guilty remember that God loved you before you came to salvation and if anyone is a non-Christian he loves you but you have to come to salvation before he can claim you as his child and begin to heal you. Remember if God loved you when you didn't know him or love him back how much more do you think he will love you when you recognize his son Jesus as your savior.

God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit love us more then anything we can even fathom. All we have to do is have faith in their unending love and trust that they will heal us. During your struggles their will be good days followed by trials and rough days. Just remember Jesus will never forsake you but he has to let you fall sometimes so you can prove to him and yourself that you have faith. Nothing on this world is worth comparing to what will be revealed in us in heaven. So turn over your guilt and depression to Jesus and let him heal those wounds.

I will continue with more scriptures in a post.

God Bless you all and don't give up.

More scriptures for support and guidance, Romans 8 is the "victory" chapter:

Romans 8:1-2 Therefore, there is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of Life set us free from the law of sin and death.

This scripture summed up tells us that we are no longer guilty or held accountable for past, present, and future sins as believers. We were all condemned to sin and death but thanks to Jesus coming to earth and sacrificing his body on the cross and then shedding blood for the forgiveness of our sins. He has declared us not guilty and offered us freedom from sin and gives us the ability to serve his good, pleasing, perfect will here on earth. By turning our lives over to him and doing his will we will be blessed and can enjoy the fruits of his spirit: love, joy, peace, kindness, patience, & being meek.

Jumping down to verse 11 it says And if the spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his spirit, who lives in you. The Holy Spirit is God's promise of eternity in heaven to those who believe in him. By showing faith or trust in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ we are guaranteed to live with Jesus forever. So don't give up and keep on fighting the good fight.

Romans 8:15-17 For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to Fear, but you received the Spirit of Sonship. And by him we cry "Abba, Father". The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's Children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs--heirs of God and Co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

I should quote the whole chapter but we can focus on a few scriptures. They call it the victory chapter for it talks about how we overcome all sin and temptations through faith in the Spirit of Jesus. These scriptures focus on no longer being fearful slaves but now we are Father God's children and we now have blessings but responsibilities as well. We need to identify our gifts and use them in proportion to our faith. When we are in times of great dispair we can cry out Abba Father or Daddy help me. He is always watching over us and we only have to trust in his love and healing power. As children we get to share in his glory but also by being identified with Christ we will have sufferings. Through these sufferings we can rejoice because through perseverance Jesus will mold and strengthen are characters. We have to learn that he is in control and we cannot survive on earth without his help. Our sufferings will include persecution from the world, temptations, and mental attack. We have to remember that through the perseverance of our sufferings we will be blessed and have eternal rewards. Also remember that Jesus paid an even heavier price for he was killed for the forgiveness of our sins. Always be thankful for what Jesus has done for us.

Romans 8:18-27 focuses on the future glory of what will be revealed in us when we go to heaven after we faithfully serve Jesus here on earth.

Romans 8:28-39 focuses on "More than Conquerors" That is right God works in all things for the good of those who love him. He will never forsake us and no matter what happens he will always be there to pick us up when we fall if we show faith and trust in his unending love, mercy, and grace. As we grow in spirit we become more like Jesus. We can never be perfect like Jesus but we can do our best to be a good representation of him. Christian means Christ-Like. Trying to be like Jesus Christ.

Romans 8:35-39 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written:

For your sake we face death all day long;
we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.

No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither life nor death, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither heigth nor depth nor anything in all of creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

As believers we always have to face hardships and trials but there is nothing to fear because we are protected by the blood of Jesus and we are in his hands. His death shows us his unconquerable love for us and that he is always with us to make us feel secure in him. Powers are the enemy and his fallen angels. In Jesus we are more then conquerors because his spirit dwells in our hearts and all forces are beneath his feet. Along with his love we are protected from all powers, and any creation here on earth. As Christians we no longer have to fear anything because we can rely on the power of Jesus name for comfort and protection. We will face alot of trials for as new believers or those of us with mental illness the enemy doesn't want us to overcome this for we then become powerful witnesses to help others out of this condition.

2 Thesalonians 3:3 The Lord our God is faithful, he will strengthen us and protect us from the enemy.

2 Timothy 1:7 For God did not give me the spirit of Fear, but the spirit of Truth, Love, and of a Sound Mind. Start to renew your mind today to be led by the Spirit.

John 8:32 And you shall know the truth and the truth will set you free.
The bible is the truth and as you apply the truth to your heart you also can be set free from cutting and depression. Once again good luck in your battle's and just ask Jesus to be your Conqueror in these illnesses and reign in Victory with him.

May God Bless your daily walk with Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
