Metaphor alert!! "Itching ears to digest"?????


This is kind of a cartoon version of reality. Spoken by someone whose (myth) does not include ever having actually been in such a classroom.
Especially as they dont even exist.

However, since you can state as a fact that "most" of the ToE is myth... surely you can give one or two examples?

I think what you are doing is identifying the weakness of any religion and projecting it onto something else.

A person who insists that an archetypical all-powerful father figure cobbled together all of Creation for the sole purpose of making you the most important thing in it forfeits the right to use "Myth" as a pejorative term.

And an awful metaphor at that -- something that itches is not about to digest anything. "Hungry ears to digest" would at least be more consistent.

I'm sure you have been to many lectures on evolution and know plenty of those professors, right?

Just 'cause I actually study that stuff at uni and I've seen no sign of myths so far... these "professors of evolution" love to speak about actual experimental results and explore controversies. It's not like they just stand there and pull big claims out of thin air.

This is an obvious attempt to troll, because you cannot be that willfully ignorant of the theory of evolution.

I dare you to step outside your comfort zone and actually read a good book on ToE, maybe "Why Evolution is True" by Jerry Coyne.

Otherwise, you have absolutely no grounds for making asinine comments like these.

It's also so laughably obvious that the poster of the "itching ears to digest" comment has not the faintest idea of what a college classroom is like.

Well, speaking as one who has taught earth sciences in the past, I will have to assume that you didn't intend to suggest we who teach are up there speaking unknowingly like idiots or lying or making stuff up as we go along. We are all doing our best.

Do tell us, Little Nipper, how many science classes have you taught?

I'd be very interested to know. I mean, we have so many Creationists tell us scientists how science should be done or how it should be taught, I'd be interested to hear one Creationist tell us their personal experience in the sciences or science education.

But religion does no better at explaining these. How many times have people heard about "God's Mysterious Ways", or "Part of His plan we cannot know".

Good Christian youth die every day just as good atheist youth, and even bad Christian youth and bad atheist youth.

Why do bad things sometimes happen to good people? And vice versa?

Science does its best to explain what it can and indeed statistics plays a very important role in describing the events of the universe.

Here's a fine example:

Recently I went back home with my wife to my father-in-law's funeral. He had passed away at age 87. My wife's folks were really good Christians, devout Catholics their entire lives. Almost never missed Mass. Right after father-in-law died, mother-in-law came down with a horrible stomach flu which then went through the family like a tornado. My wife had it so bad she and a couple of her sisters had to miss their dad's funeral. I sat with her while she vomitted and felt lousy for a long time.

Meanwhile, me, the atheist, caught nothing. I slept next to the woman who got the flu among the worst yet I caught it not.

Is this the "Awesome Healing Power of Atheism"? Or is it far more prosaic that indeed some people have natural immunities to some things, or that I wasn't hugging everyone all the time (I'm not a hugger, all the sisters-in-law know that now after 20 years).

Statistics gives us insight, but not going to tell you where all the coins are going to be that land heads-up. Science, using statistics, helps to lift the curtain just a wee bit. We don't see everything. But I don't see much evidence that religion sees more accurately in the dark corners.
