AND THE PEOPLE TOOK THEIR DOUGH BEFORE IT WAS LEAVENED. On the strength of this is founded the precept that the leaven should be burned on the Passover Eve. "Leaven,' and "unleaven" symbolize the evil and the good inclinations in man.

Soncino Zohar, Shemoth, Raya Mehemna, Page 40b

For when Israel went out from Egypt they emerged from the dominion of the Egyptians, from that dominion which is called "leaven"; for the "evil inclination" operates in man and grows in him like leaven in the dough: it enters into him, and, little by little, extends its influence until his whole self is permeated by it

Zohar 2:182a
According to some this was the prayer of R. Hamnuna, and R. Alexandri on concluding his prayer used to add the following: Sovereign of the Universe, it is known full well to Thee that our will is to perform Thy will, and what prevents us? The yeast in the dough...

Talmud, Berachot 17a

Jesus is often likened to Unleavened Bread in Messianic Seders. If leaven represents sin, then unleavened bread (which is nowadays pierced and striped) represents something (or Someone) without sin.

Now we have a tradition that sprang from common people of Israel (rather than the Sages) that the small piece of 'unleavened bread' that comprises the 'afikoman' has the ability to calm the sea!!

Reminds me of

Gen 18:32
And he said, Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak yet but this once: Peradventure ten shall be found there. And he said, I will not destroy it for ten's sake.

Yohannan 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

I dont' understand the point of all these thread you have started. Mishnah, Zohar, Talmud, why are you quoting these books and nothing else?
I can see it! It's the connection between our New Testiment scriptures and the Talmud,Mishnah ect. It just shows the Hebrew thought behind it giving it back some of it's Jewishness ...which we would all agree was looking rather Greekish in the past.

minchah? was that the daily morning and evening offerings?

Minchah can sometimes refer to different kinds of offerings, but most often refers specifically to the bread or meal offerings like Steve said. There are two main groups if you will - one had oil mixed in it and the other had oil annointed on it. If we consider that oil has a particular picture associated with it this can become interesting when we think of Acts 2. Didn't want to throw this off track - just rambling.............

It would make sense if they did after all we knnow that the end result of sins are they are burnt up ...

I checked the Stone Edition Chumash by Artscroll. In the back (page 1295) they have a table that lists Non-Altar Baked Offerings. The Two Loaves of Shavuot are listed.

The note above says this:

There are also four kinds of baked products which figure inthe sacrificial service of which no part is burned on the Altar. These are all joined to some other substances or offering, whose avodah serves for them as well...

These two loaves were specially shaped and were offered with two Peace Offering lambs (shelamim) and were for priestly consumption only.

There is this Torah commandment that forbids offering leaven on the altar:

Lev 2:11 No meat offering, which ye shall bring unto the LORD, shall be made with leaven: for ye shall burn no leaven, nor any honey, in any offering of the LORD made by fire.
