I've watched all of Hovind's seminar videos multiple times and several of his debates. He is very entertaining and he certainly makes you think although he does use some arguments that have been proven incorrect or at least very questionable. I still watch his videos and recommend them to people even though I don't agree with a good deal of his theology but thankfully, he sticks to the subject and keeps the "bones" to a minimum.

There have been instances where he was less than gracious with debate opponents who treated him with much more respect than he treated them but there again, he is just a man so I can't pass judgement on him too harshly. Personally I tend to depend more on AiG more for accuracy simply because they are much more concerned with it.

Oh this is too much. You defend a selection of Hovind quotes where he makes incredibly offensive and slanderous claims about the Clintons, scientists creating AIDS and so on, and try to describe my appraisal of your response as "defamation and slander"?

I don't agree with his conspiracy theory stuff, however, if you watch the seminars, you will find that he either never made the statements (many of them are paraphrases made to make him sound crazy) or are taken from their context to make them appear unsubstanciated or off-the-wall comments.

Besides, the site you link to has been thoroughly rebutted by Hovind on his radio program, and he has responded to the arguments on the over 1000 anti-Hovind websites. Do not trust sceptics (http://www.tektonics.org/calcon.html) They rarely have anything intelligent to say, and that site (which I'm familiar with) is no exception.

Actually, as someone who thinks that the YEC message does major damage to Christianity, I am of two minds. On the one hand, he is so ridiculous that he just makes the YEC cause a laughingstock. This *should* have the result of making even those who accept YEC'ism now rethink this position. Anyone who knows ANYTHING about what evolution is all about and what the evidence out there is knows that he is just selling (literally) a bill of goods.

On the other hand, I am not sure I have enough trust in the general public, who likes a snazzy speaker who makes you laugh and talks in a folksy way that is easy to understand, to see through all this to realize that the man is just selling a pack of half-truths and simple falsehoods. The attempts to defend even his most crackpot and slanderous positions on this very forum makes me shake may head in shame for my fellow Man. Thus, the YEC cause could actually grow, thus damaging Christianity even further.

One good sign is that AIG (a leading Creationist group who at least makes a pretense of attempting real science) has called him to the carpet for his misleading and near-fraudulent ways. The problem is that Hovind is a better speaker, more appealing, and has found that he can pretty much say what he likes, even if he has to make it up, and get away with it, despite what more responsible Creationist groups have to say about it. One thing Hovind repeatedly refuses to do is engage in any written debates in which actual scientific arguments must be supported and presented in scientific manner. He will ONLY debate verbally, where he can use his speaking skills to avoid real issues, misdirect the conversation, use pithy one liners, and where the complicated issues can't be fully presented and fleshed out. Hovind is entertainment, not truth.

But, I really shouldn't be here in this forum, so I will head back to the real world and let the coziness continue.

has anyone watched the whole 16 or so hours of the creation science seminar?

i know of a lot of ppl who have had their faith in God renewed by watching them.

I have watched them and I like what he says. Although there are a few things that I disagree on, it's like he says, "Eat the meat and spit out the bones".
I have shared his seminar with family and they loved it because it answered so many questions and opened their eyes to possibilities they never new.

The difference is that my appraisal did not, despite your assertions, contain any defamation or unsubstantiated allegation. His did.

I have purposely not commented before on this thread, since I didn't know a lot about the man and felt the "hear say" was not a good enough basis for me to comment.

However, from here and some links, the little I have read makes me distrustful of him.

I am VERY wary of accepting any Christian teaching from a person of questionable moral behaviour.

If a teacher has been proven to use support for his ideas while knowing it has been discarded by most others, including creation scientists, and if he's rude and derogatory when challenged,, then I don't need to know any more about him or his work.

Now, it's hard to verify all the accusations, but the fact that AIG have had some concerns carries some weight with me.

I agree you can sometimes "eat the meat and spit out the bones", but the problem is; not everyone knows the difference, and so can be led astray.
This would particularly apply to new Christians or seekers, whose discernment is yet to develop fully.

Before taking Hovind quotes out of context or using quotes that are just made up you can easily contact him during his radio show M-F 5pm-6pm central time using AOL IM and get more information straight for the horses mouth. I suggest anyone to do that before taking any "Hovind quotes" as a valid discredit to him and his ministry. If your wondering I have seen his new seminar series, the one from I believe 1999 I own and also have seen a seminar in person. After them seminar I talked to him for a while in person. Also I have watched most of his video debates. I don't agree with all his beliefs but all to often I hear him misquoted and insulted for no good reason, from Christians none the less.

first thanx project, you stole what i was going to say. rather than judge, why don't u talk to him directly?

anyhow, he does not "evade" taxes like many think, but rather knows the law quite well and doesn't pay the taxes he isn't supposed to. i haven't had a ssn since i was born. i won't have an ssn and many think u have to, but u don't have to have one. it's about knowing the law.

as for cancer, yes nutrition is a big key. actually hovind will never say this but the "cancer battle plan" is a good book on it.
