Kai Houtos, "And In This Way" In Romans 11: 26

The Textus Receptus Greek for Romans 11: 26 , a dispensationalist Proof Text, says "και ουτως πας ισραηλ σωθησεται καθως γεγραπται ηξει εκ σιων ο ρυομενος και αποστρεψει ασεβειας απο ιακωβ"

kai outos or kai houtos can be translated as "And In this way," so that the sentence is referring back to previous texts written by Paul.

Houtos is Strong's Exhaustive Concordance number 3779, which in the printed Strong's is said to mean "houtos, from 3778, in this way, referring to what precedes or follows...in this manner...on this fashion, so in like manner, thus."

But what previous statement or statements is Paul referring to in saying "And in this way all Israel will be saved.?

Paul I believe is referring to Romans 11: 1-24, where he mentions that the remnant is saved by the election of grace (verse 5), In Romans 11: 20 Paul says "Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith." So, "in this way": all Israel will be saved. We know from other texts, one in Romans 10: 12, that there is then, in the First Century, no difference between the Jew and the Greek. So, in Romans 11: 26 Paul is calling all the elect, who are to be saved, Israel. All Israel, the elect of God, regardless of their genetics or bloodlines, are saved by grace. There are no two peoples and two programs for God's people in Romans 11: 26, only one, and that is that we are all saved by faith, not by bloodline.

Dispensationalists may claim that Romans 11: 26 applies to this present dispensation which is to be replaced sometime in the future by a covenant in which physical and national Israel and the law are to be re-run.

But Isaiah mentions the EVERLASTING COVENANT seven times: 42:6; 49:8; 54:10, 55:3, 56:4,6; 59:21, 61:8

"They shall be My people, and l will be their God. And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put My fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from Me."-Jeremiah 32:38, 40.

"A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in My statutes, and ye shall keep My judgments, and do them. Moreover, I will make a covenant of peace with them: it shall be an everlasting covenant with them."-Ezekiel 36:26, 27; 37:26.

Hebrews 10: 9 says "Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second."

II Corinthians 3: 7, 11 says "But if the ministration of death, written and engraven in stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not stedfastly behold the face of Moses for the glory of his countenance; which glory was to be done away:......... For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is glorious."

And in the Old Testament, Haggai 2: 9 says "The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, saith the LORD of hosts: and in this place will I give peace, saith the LORD of hosts."

Since the Old Covenant was done away with, then the Everlasting Covenant must be the New Covenant in Hebrews 8: 8-13, and in Jeremiah 31: 31-34.

How could the covenant of Hebrews 8: 8-13 be an everlasting covenant if in dispensationalism it is to be replaced by a covenant of law, again honoring the people of the physical bloodline?

Paul says how the Jews were broken away, so that the Gentiles may be grafted in. So, if we are grafted in with the saved Jews, we are all in the same tree, with the same way of salvation . . . Jesus.

"For if their being cast away is the reconciling of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?" (Romans 11:15)

So, the Jews being cast away has been "the reconciling of the world". And their acceptance will be "life from the dead" . . . more than reconciliation. So, their being saved can minister "life from the dead" to us Gentiles. Again, then, I see this can mean our way of salvation is connected and so it can be the same, for Jew and Gentile.

So, however God does bless the Jews is essential for our salvation . . . however this is.

But > Paul says "if they do not continue in unbelief" they "will be grafted in", in Romans 11:23. So, to me this seems to keep open the possibility that a number of Jews will not believe and so they will not be saved.

And Paul does say, "he is a Jew who is one inwardly", in Romans 2:25-29. And, "there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him." (in Romans 10:12) I see how this supports that there is the same way of salvation for Jews and Gentiles . . . in our hearts. And Paul says,

"Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us." (Romans 5:5)

So, God is sharing His very own love with "us" in "our" hearts. Paul, a Jew, wrote this to Gentiles in Rome. So, God's main attention is to what is happening in our hearts; so it is reasonable that He is not having Jews do a different outward thing, when what is in our heart is what matters.

"rather let it be the hidden person of the heart, with the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious in the sight of God." (1 Peter 3:4)

"My little children, for whom I labor in birth again until Christ is formed in you," (Galatians 4:19)

"For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren." (Romans 8:29)

So, the destiny of every child of God is the same, that we will be conformed to the image of Jesus. I now understand that this is the main focus of salvation. It is not only about God loving us and being there for us and helping us and taking care of us, but the central attention it to conforming us within ourselves to the image of Jesus. So, our attention needs to be less about ourselves and getting what we want and need from God. First love Him by being pleasing to Him like Jesus in us is making us more and more so pleasing to our Father. And enjoy this with Him

And so there is not a main focus of attention to who is a Jew and who is a Gentile physically. Even in case God does have certain things planned for certain Jews, this is not a main item for His attention, compared with how He is changing both Jews and Gentiles to become like His own Son Jesus.
