God has given all authority for judging to Jesus, who is also God. Here are some other Scriptures indicating this. By no means is this an exhaustive list:

Romans 2:16
This will take place on the day when God will judge men's secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares.

2 Timothy 4:1a
In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead

2 Corin. 5:10
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.

The reaosn the Son is the judge is because the Son bore all our sins for us.. For the Believer there is no more judgement.. But for the unbeliever there is the punishment of a rejected gift.. Really of unforgiven sins. Just to add to what has been said.

The Son is the executer of the Father's will. The Father wanted earth created, He did it through the Son (Colossians 1:16, John 1:1-3). He wanted mankind redeemed, He did it through the Son (Colossians 1:20). He will be judging the world through the Son also.
