Yes/Amen to that last part. Back to Gospel simplicity

My career/ministry is with the homeless.
Welcome to this Discussion here

Passionately I have spent 90+% of my life helping people
less fortunate, as JESUS called us each to do, to help JESUS SAVE in many ways...

Exactly how do you go about it; Do tell...

I was a Franciscan friar for five years and sometimes my ministry involved working with the homeless. I identified with this population and served thenm right after graduation (Social work degree) as a front line worker and a counsellor. The how to is by being very approachable, non-judgmental and being eager to help in any way I can. This can involve basic things such as getting them clothes, shelter and food. On another level it involves being an active listener and sounding board. Sometimes it involves referrals and making their time here more smooth and pleasant

Also it sometimes means de-escalating them, helping to break up fights etc. I see a lot of drug use and sometimes they are volatile and angry or hate filled. I have been threatened on numerous occassions and one had a hatchet in his hands looking to do more than give me a haircut. It can be a tough population at times. This is my 15th year.

GOD Bless *you* for all your Brotherly love Forge.

Tho my work hasn't been Directly with the homeless, am (too emotionally & physically vulnerable), I have helped
in other ways:
I organized a neighborhood-program, where drugged teenagers under my guidance, planted
a PEA-patch garden
, & they got to eat the fruits of their labors, & made new friends then in 4-H, &
further programs to get them rehabilitated. I enjoyed this alot.
&
My dtr. in Kindergarten knew I wanted 7 more children, but was prevented; so
she'd bring home little Starving-kids, with "Mommy, here's another one for you to Love "
And after meeting their parents, (also drug-addicted), & they said: "Just KEEP the brat, I don't care",
I would be a surrogate-mommy for them. They'd get their own Library-card, & we'd got on Field-trips, &
by the time they started school, they were another little genius
&
Around the holidays, College-students who couldn't go home, were depressed.
At the same time, Nursing-home inmates are depressed for the SAME reason. -
So I organized a sewing-circle, where we crocheted Warm-slippers; & too
Quilts for little (hospitalized) kids, & Delivered them on 12/24: &
we sang Carols, & handed out more goodies. - all to PRAISE God
&
my daughter, as a teenager followed in my footsteps, & at 17 as she graduated from college with honors,
she had double the Service-projects & hours. - At a Public-school breakfast for us parents, she was asked:
Who is the 1 person, who has helped you be who you are today, & she said: my Mom.

I LOVE Jesus. And I LOVE helping others.

Cool. You sound very blessed. I cannot see myself doing some of the things you did and we are all given ministries according to our gifts.

Thank you for your kind words. - Yes, you could DO all these things, and more...

Also, as my service spans 23/50+ yrs, obviously that's only a few examples.
Years ago, when employers actually liked seeing our Community-givings on the Resume,
I had the hardest time Summarizing these. - And inevitably they'd ask:
"And you did ALL these in only 6 lifetimes?"

Easily hired, this can actually backfire, as employers then think: "okay, she can do ANYthing" :o
And I surely did my best, even when I wore myself to a frazzle...

Interestingly, I've not learn to PACE myself, until this year.
oh well,
wait til from my 1st. surgery (Strangulated-hernia), I'm healed, I'll be right at it again... PRAISE God!

So, how do *you* TAKE GOOD CARE of yourself?, while yet serving others...

Meditation, eating well, exercise and
connecting with people who are supportive and loving.
Actually having worked also as a Counselor, that was a rhetorical question.

(Except I did nearly physically die during 5 times it was just Jesus & me.)

The rest of the time, I was amidst Loving & Supportive others too.

re "exercise": as a liiittle(r) girl, I was a Snow-skier, gymnast, & sprinter.
Lately, I was inspired to PRAISE God by learning how to Iceskate: a new passion

What kind of exercise do you enjoy?

Yes, you definitely do NOT want to waste/kill
your precious Liver with alcohol-poisoning;
and
Also you definitely do NOT want to waste/kill
your precious Lungs by paving them with tar.

(Thankfully, I have never had a desire for either one; nor
do I accept other drugs: OTC, nor prescription; as
they all including cigarettes, make me more than sick.)

What an Intelligent choice on your part, to replace
both,
with people also of both FREE & exceptionally Happy & Healthy.
Best wishes in your journeys... Forge

Sure, I gladly pray: Dear Heavenly Daddy,
Forge is struggling with stuff in his past, and

Please let Forge know... How Eternally LOVED he is by *you* Dear Daddy.
You are soo Proud of Forge's Efforts to rid himself of alcoholic traps; & instead
develop further Healthy Social-connections in his life.
Please guide... Forge's footsteps towards people who can help him Achieve his worthy goals.
Please guide... Forge's mind towards Resources that can help him live as the Winner-in-life you created him.
Please have Forge know... how Pleased you are with his work helping the homeless; and

Thanks.
You seem to have thoughtfully covered all the things I really want with God

Feeling a bit better today other than I have a cold.
Unfortunately, DIStress can make us vulnerable,
to all sorts of nasties

Actually, I teach classes on Soul, & Mind, & Body
(but not in CF).
Elsewhere, where people are Interested in learning...

Sasha Cohen

5-Ft.-2 & 95 Lbs., she's too a Competitive Contortionist .
And She Can Leg-Press 400 Lbs.—or About 1.6 NFL Running Backs

WHY YOU'LL WATCH HER: In fact, she won the U.S. Nationals in St. Louis on1/14/11,
handily outskating Kimmie Meissner, 16, and Emily Hughes, 17, kid sister of gold medalist Sarah Hughes.

LEGS OF STEEL: During the 2003 season, the 5′2″, 95-lb. Cohen began serious off-ice training, including
running and lifting weights—she says she can now leg-press 400 lbs. "I feel now when I land my jumps, I'm landing on a column," Cohen, 21, recently told SPORTS ILLUSTRATED, "rather than the spaghetti noodles I skated on in 2000."

NEW 'TUDE: The old Cohen had a reputation for imploding under competition pressure. No more.
"In the past, I felt uncertain whether she would skate well," says NBC analyst Scott Hamilton, who saw her win
the U.S. title last month. "This time she conveyed, "This is my night, and you're all competing for 2nd. place.'"

DON't PLAY TWISTER WITH HER: "She can do unbelievable contortions with her body,"
says her teammate, men's world bronze medalist Evan Lysacek. "I've seen her twist her legs around her head.
She's the most flexible person I've ever seen."
.
question is: Will she maintain her Flexability... after 60??

The Bible contains the mind of God,
the state of man, the way of salvation, the doom of sinners and the happiness of believers. Its doctrines are holy,
its precepts are binding, its histories are true, and its decisions are immutable. Read it to be wise,
believe it to be safe and practice it to be holy. It contains light to direct you, food to support you and comfort to cheer you.
It is the traveler's map, the pilgrim's staff, the pilot's compass, the soldier's sword and the Christian's charter.
Here paradise is restored, heaven opened and the gates of hell disclosed. Christ is its grand object,
our good is its design and the glory of God its end. It should fill the memory, rule the heart, and guide the feet.
Read it slowly, frequently, and prayerfully. It is a mine of wealth, a paradise of glory, and a river of pleasure.
It is given you in life, will be opened in the judgment, and will be remembered forever.
It involves the highest responsibility, will reward the greatest labor, and will condemn all who trifle with its sacred contents." ~Anonymous

JESUS' *LOVE* NOTES...
(to be ordered )

Psalm 46:1 ----- God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.
Psalm 119:105 - Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path.

Isaiah 40:28-31 - Have you not known? Have you not heard? The everlasting God (Yahweh),
the Creator of the ends of the earth, faints not, neither is weary; His understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the faint; and to him who has no might He increases strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall; but
those who wait for Yahweh shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint

Jeremiah 29:11 - 'For I know the plans I have for you,' declares the LORD, 'plans to prosper you and
not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

>>> NEW Testament <<<
Matthew ..7:7-8 - Ask, & it will be given to you. Seek, & you will find. Knock, & the door will be opened to you.
Matthew 11:28-30 - Come to Me, all you who are weary and weighed down with heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you, and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in spirit. Indeed, you will surely find rest in Me! My yoke is easy, and My burden is light.

John 16:33 - I have told you these things so that you would find comfort in Me.
In this world, you will suffer; but be courageous, for I have overcome the world!

Romans 8:28 - God causes all things to work together for good to those who love Him, to
enable them to fulfill the purpose for which they are called.

2 Corinthians 5:17 - Therefore, if any man is in Christ, he is a new creation. Old things have passed away; look, new things have come!

Philippians 4:4-7
4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.
5 Let your gentleness be known to everyone. The Lord is near.
6 Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

1 John 5:14-15 - And this is our confidence, that if we pray according to His will, He will hear us, and
give us what we ask for, because
our desires are in agreement with His thoughts for us.
