  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think I understand what you are saying in reference to the Holy Spirit's guidance in living a sin-free life and also to Jesus' commandment to love one another, being the "greatest commandment," as a guide also, right living following naturally. However, I must stand by what I said in my previous post. Jesus said "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." (Mt. 5:17NIV) Now, there is some debate in Acts 15:19-24 and Rom. 2 concerning abolishing the requirement of Christian Gentiles to abide by the laws that Jews lived by with respect to circumcision, eating certain foods, etc, but that has little relevence to this discussion.

I wish you would post the Biblical reference in which Paul says the law is abolished. I cannot find it. I do however find in Rom. 3:31 that he says "Do we, then, nullify the law by this faith? Not at all! Rather, we uphold the law." Scofield explains "We, as sinners, establish(uphold) the law in its right use and honor by confessing our guilt and just condemnation. Christ establishes(upholds) the law by obediently keeping its precepts, and by enduring, on the sinners behalf, its penalty, death." We are therefore, as I said before, not judged by our ability to abide by the law, but rather our faith in Jesus paying the penalty for our failure. This is explained by Paul in Rom. 3:21-22: "But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference."

You also said that Paul said "the law makes sin ABOUND." Can't find that. What he said is that "Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law(which is what I said above); rather, through the law we become conscious of sin." Rom. 3:20 That means the law tells us what kinds of activities constitute sin. But you are correct in saying "The law can never give you the power to overcome sin or anything else." That power does indeed come from the Holy Spirit.

The statement "We aren't even supposed to try not to sin" is misleading and can get the uninitiated into trouble. While the Holy Spirit, in concert with the law, will convict or let us know when we are getting into a situation where we might sin, the scriptures are plain in telling us that we still, even as Christians, have the "sin nature" and it is a daily, even moment by moment, decision that we must make not to sin. For sure, God will help us to make that decision; but always keep in mind what Paul says in 1 Cor. 10:12-13 "So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall! No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it."

Mr Ez said:
i'm a bit confuse, did he died for the Adam's sin or for us to longer obey the 10 commandment?
Good question, and good responses from the other posters!

To put it simply -- Adam sinned. Jesus is called the second Adam, and He did NOT sin. To put it bluntly -- he and Adam were *brothers* in the sense that God was Father to both, literally.

Once Adam sinned -- everything after that (Torah, 10 commandments, sacrifices, etc.) were a way to lead back to God -- yet the over-riding thing that was lacking -- was the "perfect sacrifce", that would put an end to all of that -- ie -- a human being willing to be the sacrifice for mankind.

Jesus was the "lamb without spot", who chose to go the distance. He was tempted in all things as man (Adam) was, yet did not to give in to temptation.

Adam's sin was passed on to mankind, and sacrifice was required by God to eradicate it. The blood of goats, rams, and lambs were only a temporary fix for the situation.

Jesus (by choosing to die for mankind), became the perfect sacrifice, so to answer your question -- He died for us all. He did not die for Adam's sin, nor for us to forget the 10 commandments. He died so that all may have abundant entrance into Heavan.

I believe Jesus was 100% flesh and blood, and because He chose to sacrifice His life, God honored His refusal to sin, and the resulting death, so that the likes of you and I (who have less will-power), could someday enjoy eternal life.

Hope that helps answer your queston.

Jesus died for the sins of mankind. He died for your sins, my sins, the whole world's sins. Remember, when we committed our first sins, it hadn't occurred yet so all sins to Jesus were future sins. Adam & Eve were banished from the Garden of Eden. I believe this was their punishment. I do believe they are now in Heaven. In the OT, sacrifices were how they were in good fellowship w/ God. But now, we have Jesus Christ & that's enough.

First and foremost, you need to realize that God loves you!

"For God so LOVED the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish, but have eternal life." John 3:16

See, God LOVES you, and so he SAVED you from your death. And why do we all deserve to die? Cause we sinned. Period. We don't deserve squat. Jesus saved us because he loves us.

Jesus/God died for all. The world needed a love so great - beyond degree- that it would eliminate and weaken all sorts of evil -past, present, future.

When adam and eve ate the "apple" they brought sin into the world -sin is the absence of God, it is unpure to him for it is out of the nature he stands for- and in order to purify/remedy the entire human race was to through the power of love.

God loves/believes in me and for that i return the favor. Unlike in other beliefs (sorry if i offend anyone), 2000 years ago, a precious gift was given: God's only son; God manifested as one of his creations/ in the flesh, who within is the Holy Ghost - Jesus who was wrapped in clothes designed for a man of the lower class... but there inside no eyes could behold it - that gift (Jesus) was the greatest gift of all; it was the gift of Love - a love so amasing, a love beyond degree. He was sent to change the world, for his light is the only thing able to pierce the darkness and his light is the only one that could change the world, for the only of hope mankind is a savior.

He is so faithful and true, that he left the throne in heaven and entered the world. He wasn't born like a prince, born in palace, and to the richest people of the time. He was born in a stable, to parents of the lower class. When Jesus entered the world, his only goal wasn't just to save us but to know us. God felt what it was like to feel hunger, to thirst, to cry, to be mistreated, to be punched, spitted upon, mocked, rejected... and he suffered on the cross.

The death on the cross was a statement to all of us, that God would take it upon himself all of that just for us. He saved the world through sacrifice.

I DIDNT THINK ANYONE STILL BELIEVED THAT SOMEONE COULD DIE FOR YOUR SINS, ESPECIALLY AS deuteronomy 24:16/2 chronicles 25:4/2 kings 14:6/Ezekiel 18:4and 18:20 is so clear.
It is a nice thought that jesus feels the pain and we get saved, I know some christians will say that jesus was not a regular man but he was reduced to a man when he was starved, then scourged (whipped) in john 19:1. and according to john 8:28 he is THE SON OF MAN. By the way PAUL/SAUL (self appointed disciple of jesus) is who the mass of the christian world is following not jesus (the saviour for the lost sheep of the house of isreal). Each year they come up with different concepts to try and explain how someone can die for your sins, and they seem to get more silly every year.
I suppose they got to keep it up if they dont then BANG goes the crucifition story as well, funny that because when we look at the first paragraph in the book of revelation it tells you clearly that this is jesus book, yet still in his own book there is no mention of this is so called crucifixton nor resurrection, dont you think it would have been appropriate for him to record this miraculous event in his book. The book of romans(another one of pauls books?) is what most christians use to justify this story.
is this the same PAUL/SAUL. a self-confessed lier now please read this carefully quote. ROMANS 3:7 , for if the truth of god hath more abounded through my lie unto his glory: why am i also judged as a sinner? I would have thought it was obvious but then this PAUL/SAUL i am taking about and his stories are biggies.
