• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I really need to quit smoking; this is driving me so crazy! It's getting to the point where I'm starting to spend my lunch money on cigarettes... actually, I've been doing that for a long time. It's so bad that I've left school a couple of times just to have a cigarette. Withdrawal is more mental than physical for me. I actually feel better physically when I don't smoke, but I'm so focused on the agony it brings me mentally that I can't enjoy the physical aspect of being smoke-free. Can anyone give me some advice, encouragement, support, and scripture? I'd really, really appreciate it and please know that I'm here for y'all, too.

I honestly know where you are coming from on the more of a mental thing than physical thing. I have now been smoke free 18 days. I was able to quit using nicatrol. It helps replace the mental portion and does give you a dose of nicotine for the physical.

Believe you can and will do it w/ Gods help. Phil. 4:13 I can do all things thru Christ who strengthens me.

You are in my prayers.

My prayers are with you. You can and will do it with God's help. There is no right/wrong way to quit smoking as it is a journey that each of us has to take individually (with God's help of course). Try different ways - you may find you get it right the first time but unfortunately that is pretty rare. So just hold in there and keep trying until you get it right and don't worry because God will be there every step of the way. And if you need any help, you know where to find us. Love and God bless, Evie

I used the patch and it helped, but I did two more things that helped. I started to exercise whenever I got a craving. Did you know that if you ignore a craving, that it will pass in about 5 minutes? Think about it: you crave cigarettes ALL DAY when you are smoking. You just keep giving in to the craving. If you ignore it and let yourself win over your craving, the cravings will come less often. Also, I used herbal cigarettes for the first couple of weeks to help with the mental thing. Those things are so awfully nasty that I had to stop after the first two packs.

I will certainly pray for you to be successful. I know it's hard, but you will not regret quitting, ever! You will regret it the longer it goes without trying to quit... May God bless you through this! Praying for your much desired success!
