The shift has been from more centrist to more radicalism and further left. Its undeniable. And we see that playing out in real time in New York with Mamdani. We'll see if Democrats wake up in time. The Overton window done did shift a ways to the Right, 2004’s Centrist is 2025’s “radical leftist”.
Yeah, I hate that. So do a lot of other conservatives.Love the way they've been forthcoming with the Epstein files!
The thing is, there are two Overton Windoes--one for social liberals/conservatives and another for economic liberals/conservatives. There is consederl overlap, of course, but they are not the same and ought to be considered separately. The Overton window done did shift a ways to the Right, 2004’s Centrist is 2025’s “radical leftist”.
Not without special training, anyway. Basically it's a good idea. The shift has been from more centrist to more radicalism and further left. Its undeniable. And we see that playing out in real time in New York with Mamdani. We'll see if Democrats wake up in time.
Did you see where he thought police shouldn't be involved in domestic abuse cases?
Its a terrible idea. The police in every state have specialized training now. Its not 70s anymore. Not without special training, anyway. Basically it's a good idea.
OK, sure. Its a terrible idea. The police in every state have specialized training now. Its not 70s anymore.
Why not? Do you think a person with that kind of training cannot become a sworn officer?Domestic violence scenarios are some of the worst things you can respond to. They are frought with danger. You have to have specialized training to deal with them and determine what occurred and who needs to get arrested. Social workers would have no clue and would have no ability to arrest anyone.
It doesn't appear you have any idea what you are talking about. And neither does Mamdani. Unless he doesn't see them as any big deal. I wonder why.
Sure a socual worker could be a sworn officer, but then they would be a police officer. Ive worked with a LOT of social workers over 40 years. Not one of them was interested in becoming a police officer. What I heard from them most often was they couldn't do what police do. They could deal with what police had to deal with. Why not? Do you think a person with that kind of training cannot become a sworn officer?
I’m not a citizen of New York (City nor State), and don’t concern myself with their local politics. The shift has been from more centrist to more radicalism and further left. Its undeniable. And we see that playing out in real time in New York with Mamdani. We'll see if Democrats wake up in time.

Why do progressive liberal politicians believe city laws take precedence above federal law?'Boston will not back down': Mayor Michelle Wu responds to Trump's sanctuary city ultimatum
Wu and 31 mayors from across the country received letters from U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi warning communities to identify "the immediate initiatives you are taking to eliminate laws, policies, and practices that impede federal immigration enforcement."
In her letter to Bondi, Wu said state law places clear limitations on participation in federal immigration enforcement, and she reaffirmed the city's commitment to protecting all residents.
"On behalf of the people of Boston, and in solidarity with cities and communities targeted by this federal administration for our refusal to bow down to unconstitutional threats and unlawful coercion, we affirm our support for each other and for our democracy. Boston will never back down from being a beacon of freedom, and a home for everyone," Wu wrote.
WCVB did reach out to the Justice Department, but a spokesperson pointed to an interview where Bondi said if cities don't comply, they will cut off federal funding or send in law enforcement.
It's not so much precedence as jurisdiction. Federal police (like ICE) enforce federal laws where people go to federal courts for federal justice. It's not the job of local police or DAs.Why do progressive liberal politicians believe city laws take precedence above federal law?
Incorrect. When cities give sanctuary to illegal immigrants, those cities are breaking federal immigration laws. It's not so much precedence as jurisdiction. Federal police (like ICE) enforce federal laws where people go to federal courts for federal justice. It's not the job of local police or DAs.
Baloney. What's typically meant by 'sanctuary' is that local police are forbidden (by law) from helping federal immigration do its work for them in certain circumstances. Not doing someone else's job is not a crime.Incorrect. When cities give sanctuary to illegal immigrants, those cities are breaking federal immigration laws.
Baloney. The city sanctuary laws are preventing criminal illegal immigrants from being deported. The sanctuary city laws are attempting to circumvent federal law enforcement from doing their jobs by making it far more difficult and dangerous for federal law enforcement.Baloney. And yet, it is our right to pass these laws, per the 10th Amendment to the Constitution.Baloney. The city sanctuary laws are preventing criminal illegal immigrants from being deported. If so, then it is also the right of the federal government to deny federal funds to sanctuary states and sanctuary cities. And yet, it is our right to pass these laws, per the 10th Amendment to the Constitution.
Sounds more like a problem with Uber's own internal vetting processes. Is this the new normal?

Of course and I would expect nothing less from this petty, authoritarian regime who wants everyone to bend oover and comply with their demands. As we see with Boston, sanctuary cities are standing up to this federal bully. If so, then it is also the right of the federal government to deny federal funds to sanctuary states and sanctuary cities.
Funny how quickly conservatives cottoned to the concept of Big Government.Incorrect. When cities give sanctuary to illegal immigrants, those cities are breaking federal immigration laws.
